HTC employee hints at an HTC One with stock Android

HTC_One_Front_Main_TAAt the I/O, Google announced that a version of the Samsung Galaxy S 4 running stock Android will be for sale later this summer. Could a “Google experience” HTC One with stock Android follow? Leigh Momii, a Developer Evangelist at HTC posted a tweet possibly suggesting exactly that, stating “So you can pay $649 for a piece of plastic running stock or… You can wait.” Trusted developer LlabTooFer said on Twitter he was positive that the tweet meant that “this summer we will see HTC One Google Edition” or something similar.

HTC employee Jeff Gordon replied to Android and Me, who initially reported Momii’s tweet, saying “HTC is not currently planning a ‘Nexus Edition’ of the HTC One.”  The key word in that statement is “currently,” as confirming a new version of their flagship phone would definitely hurt current sales for HTC.

If this rumor turns out to be true, could this be the start of more and more “Google experience”  Android phones? Stay tuned to Talk Android as we hear more.

Yeah right HTC get over it. Samsung rules this space.

    • squiddy20

As if Samsung is the only manufacturer who can put out a stock Android device… Stupid fanboy.

      • Richard Yarrell

You won’t be buying anything as usual so why should you care. Case closed on your android contributions you are a NON FACTOR.

        • Jared Persinger

You Samsung fans are getting to be as bad as apple fans

          • http://www.facebook.com/benjamin.pavel Benjamin Pavel

            @Jared +1
With every day i’m noticing the same…that fanboy-ism is spreading from Apple.

            • Jared Persinger

It’sa shame rreally, I like Motorola and htc more then others but I don’t bash them because it just seems stupid

        • squiddy20

“You won’t be buying anything as usual so why should you care.” Like you have to buy something to care about it… How dim witted are you? I guess in “Richard’s world” everything’s a double standard because you constantly comment on stuff you have no intention on ever buying or even trying out. Hypocrite.

      • iPhart

The point is not just to put ”stock Android”, but to have also in-time updates from Google. This decide Google, not the manufacturer.

        Stupid iboy

        • squiddy20

          1. I’m not an “iboy”. I have a Galaxy Nexus that I like very much. I have never owned an iPhone in my life. Thank you very much.
          2. On time updates are pretty much synonymous with stock Android sooooo….

Only thing Samsung rules is sales. It’s not because they make the best product, it’s because they make 100s of other products that they make money from that they can use to market the shit outta there phones, to make people believe there the best. Comparing a company like HTC who only makes phones, and actually the only top manufacturer that only makes phones is stupid. Look LG, Sony, Motorola, etc all make numerous other products to earn to support there development, marketing, resources, etc. HTC has none of that, they only manufacture phones. And in my opinion they are the type of company I wanna get behind. Focused on putting out a top quality phone and that’s it. Not depending on huge ad campaigns but simply the product basically speaking for itself. And actually the One has many features the same as the S4 there just not advertised. Yes the S4 is a great phone, my wife will probably get it. But inmo it’s not the best phone or the type of phone I wanna support. All phones have there pros/cons and in my case the HTC ones pros( screen, sound, build quality, design, performance) are what lead me to the One over the S4.

  • Kary

The HTC One is nice, but without a removable battery it’s a no go for me. And I prefer plastic, but unlike the removable battery, I could live with a metal case.

  • Tai Shy

This is turning into the android apple war 2 years ago, except this time it’s samsung vs htc….gg guys way to cause a revolution

    • Kristopher Davis (Irishgreen)

Competition within the Android community is good, it causes those companies to push harder to put out the next great thing..and shows how obsolete Apple is. They aren’t even in the competition anymore

  • iPhart

All iTech-iMedia is supporting now the apple-ish HTC One . LOL

It was same last year with the apple-ish HTC One X. Right? And we know how it ended. Right? S3 just killed it.
S4 is now the King, and you better use to live with that iboys.
Apple and HTC have a (secret) contract. Check it out.

So…because I prefer a phone with good build quality, I’m now an “iboy”? Enjoy that POS plastic SGS3s. You’ll be paying to replace it the first time you drop it.

      • vegiisan

Hmm, not true, plastic isn’t any less durable. I can’t recall how many times I dropped my S3, no damage. Let’s not keep slinging hyperbole just to retort. Now I have a Nexus 4 and know I have to be careful.

        • Kary

In some ways plastic is more durable. Plastic doesn’t dent, for example.

          • Kristopher Davis (Irishgreen)

Plastic does dent. I could show pics right now of my wife’s S3 that she dropped that has 2 big dents right next to screen on herS3. Problem with plastic is it flexes. So on phones like the S4 that have minimal bezel and plastic, when it’s dropped on those edges the plastic flexes and screen breaks.

        • http://www.standupforkids.org blackroseMD1

I’m not slinging hyperbole. I dropped my S3 and the screen shattered. I dropped my One, and got a couple dents.

          • vegiisan

That doesn’t mean anything, I easily dropped my S3 about 50 times and the screen never shattered. It’s still functional today. So, plastic wasn’t the reason yours broke, cause mine survived. The body material is irrelevant, unless it’s glass, it’s the angle it lands on and the density of the surface – and velocity of impact.

      • simpleas

You’re mistaking good build quality with build material. HTC is a compromised product. Watch who sells billions. Watch Samsung own and bow down

        • Kristopher Davis (Irishgreen)

Sales don’t make a product the best or highest quality. I don’t know why when it comes to phones Samsung fans always throw sales numbers out there. Does a Ford Focus sell far more than a Ferrari? Does a Casio sell far more than a Rolex? Yes but it doesn’t make them the best or highest quality. So why would it be different with phones?smh…. So have fun “bowing down” to the Casio of phones, I’ll be cool with my Rolex with less sales.

        • http://www.standupforkids.org blackroseMD1

Bow down? No thanks. Yeah, Sammy will sell millions of S4s because people are too stupid to realize that it’s not much of an upgrade over their S3. That doesn’t mean that it’s a better phone than the One. It’s not.

  • IRIE4IPIEIR

I don’t think it will be the HTC One, HTC might be the one chosen to make the next Nexus phone.

    • http://www.standupforkids.org blackroseMD1

      God, I hope so…

    • http://www.facebook.com/benjamin.pavel Benjamin Pavel

Even if they are chosen to do next Nexus phone (rumors says that this year Nexus will also be from LG) Google will still design it so you might not see beautiful metallic design.
Just remember Galaxy Nexus uses S2 hardware and Nexus 4 uses LG Optimus G hardware yet none of them are similiar in design to their “big brother” phones. =)

  • garfield3

An HTC ONE with an android stock wouldn’t be so bad. But as far as I’m concerned they will have to make it all black like my nexus 4 and nexus S

  • Richie S

HTC rule!! Samsung are good phones, but in my opinion based on my experience HTC win hands down.. just please HTC, bring back a removable battery and a micro and slot and there’ll be no question!

  • Jess

Heh, fanboys. You all know that these companies only really care about is your money. Granted the phone I’m using is HTC one, but if somebody else makes a better phone, I’m jumping ship.
