HTC announced this morning in London that HTC Sense will be getting a face lift very soon. There are no graphical changes happening, but a number of key software enhances were announced. Here are the new features that HTC talked about:
HTC are going to introduce a pre-loading system to a maps application on HTC Sense. This means that map images are going to be stored on the phone so that they can be viewed with or without an Internet connection.
They also mentioned that the application will include a re-orientation feature where by the map images will be rotated to display the way that the user is facing.
HTC Smart Boot
HTC claim to have cut boot times of their phones from 45 seconds down to 12. This is very interesting news. Every Android phone since the G1 has experienced terrible boot times, so this feature will be a welcome boost.
This is a new website that HTC will launch soon. It allows you to track your phone via GPS which is going to be great for when you lose it. The site will then allow you to redirect all calls and texts to a different location as well as allowing users to remotely wipe and lock their lost/stolen phone.
In addition, all the texts you send will be stored in the ‘cloud’. So from this website you will be able to read back through all your texts and look at all your contacts.
This is all very exciting stuff from HTC. They confirmed that the Desire HD and Z will be the first handsets to feature these changes. However, it remains to be seen if we can expect these updates on existing handsets running HTC Sense, like the Desire, Legend, or Wildfire.
