Android To Become More Social With Donut, Eclair, and Flan Releases
Speaking at a join T-Mobile and Google media event in San Francisco yesterday, Google's VP of engineering Andy Rubin talked about future versions of the Android OS and how the platform is poised to become more social.
Rubin revealed that future Android updates will will support more social-networking features. “Social is a big push for now,” he said, adding that eventually inbound calls could display caller photo's, name, and their last Facebook or Twitter update, for example.
With the previous Android update known as "Cupcake", Rubin added that Google had been naming each new Android release after a dessert, revealing future codenames to include "Donut," "Eclair" and "Flan".
Along with changes to the Android platform itself, Google are also looking at new ways for Android developers to charge for their apps - other than the Android Market.
Whilst the Android Market currently only supports Google Checkout, the eventual plan is to offer multiple billing systems, and even allow customers to charge application purchases directly to their T-Mobile account.
