The Wall Street Journal have revealed Motorola’s plans to launch two new Android powered smartphones later this year across the T-Mobile and Verizon networks.
According to “people familiar with the matter”, the move to Android is part of Motorola’s overhaul in order to try and gain more traction within the mobile phone market.

It is believed that T-Mobile’s Motorola handset will feature a slide out keyboard similar to the G1, and will emphasize “social communications” services such as Twitter and Facebook. It is highly likely that this will be the Motorola Morrison handset that has surfaced recently.
Verizon Wireless will partner with Vodafone in a joint venture that will see them launch a Motorola device with a similar focus to T-Mobile, although currently it isn’t known what model(s) they plan to launch. A likely candidate however could be the Motorola Calgary, the device was revealed back in April and rumored to appear sometime this year on the Verizon network.

The handset features a slide out QWERTY keyboard and will be focused towards social networking services.
Just yesterday T-Mobile announced that their second Android powered handset to launch across the US will by the myTouch 3G. The T-Mobile myTouch 3G will be available from early August priced at $199 as part of a 2-year agreement.
