Headphones are a dime a dozen. There's an insane amount to choose from, ranging from cheap low-quality options to pricey high-end solutions. When you purchase a cheap pair, you normally end up with something that sounds like a can. High-end headphones are great. The sound is usually phenomenal, but most people don't normally want to drop $300 or so on just a pair of headphones. But, thankfully, there are still good options out there.

Coloud's new No. 16 headphones sit on the cheaper end of the spectrum, but produce some great quality sound. You might not want to miss out on these.

The No. 16 headphones from Coloud aren't anything you've never seen before. They're, well, headphones. I received the pair in blue, and they do look quite nice; however, from what I've seen online, the Black/Grey variant looks a whole lot more appealing.

The color on these headphones are a lighter blue, almost a type of sky blue. The pair I received did have some neon accents on the auxiliary cable, as well as on various spots on the headphones themselves.

Coloud has done a great job as far as comfort goes. Headphones, just like anything else, are meant to be used and can become a bother if the earpieces aren't necessarily soft. We all know that feeling–the roughness of the material not mixing with the sensitivity of one's ears. Coloud, I feel, has actually taken a different approach. The cushioning on the earphones are comfortable, giving you the option of using these for hours at a time without any discomfort.

All of Coloud's headphones come with a built-in microphone. If you're listening to music and a call comes in, you can easily answer the call with the built-in remote. The remote only has one button, whereas you might find multiple buttons on other headphones for volume up, volume down, play and so on.

The No. 16 headphones take on a bit of a different setup with that single button; however, that one button with a single click can play, pause, answer calls and hang up. Two clicks of the button will fast-forward or skip to a new track while three clicks of the button will go to a previous track or rewind whatever content you're watching.

I was disappointed that the remote didn't have any volume controls. But then again, that's not a big of a deal since most technology you'll plug this into already has volume control options (e.g. a smartphone, tablet or laptop).

Coloud's No. 16 headphones get sound quality just right. Music, movies and general media sound excellent with these headphones. What might be more impressive is that, even at higher volumes, whatever content you're listening to doesn't become muffled in the least.

In everything I've listened to, the No. 16's have performed insanely well. Bass levels seem like they're “just right” almost all of the time. Many of the cheaper headphones you come across will make instruments sound almost fake, but the No. 16's add a certain amount of richness and depth to the music.

I listened to a lot of orchestral talks (e.g. “Carol of the Bells” by Trans Siberian Orchestra”), and they've all sounded, simply put, great. Sound quality really is crisp and clear, and that's shocking coming from a $50 pair of headphones.

Coming in at just $50, I was surprised to hear the level of quality the No. 16's offered. Normally, you'd have to spend at least around $100 to get a well-rounded sounding pair. It's neat to see that Coloud is offering such a quality package at a bargain of price point.

If you're looking to get your Christmas shopping done early this year, Coloud's No. 16's are a great buy.
