Samsung

Your Samsung smartphone probably has a vibrant AMOLED screen, great camera, and a variety of functions that make your life a bit easier but there are always some features that aren't instantly visible when browsing or setting up your device. Despite this, they are usually simple to use and make doing everyday tasks straightforward and efficient. To help you get the most out of your Samsung Galaxy handset (whether it's a Galaxy A32 or Galaxy S21), we are focussing on screenshots and the variety of ways these can be taken using your Samsung smartphone.

How to take a screenshot

This sounds easy- right? It really is, once you know what to do.

Technique No.1

Samsung phones are a little different from other Android mobiles as the power button works as the Bixby button as well if you haven't already disabled it. Most Android devices use the same key combination to take a screenshot: volume down and power button simultaneously pressed and held down. Samsung's One UI 3.1 is a little quicker- simply press down and let go– screenshot completed!

Technique No.2

Samsung has some handy gestures you can enable using the palm of your hand. Go to SettingsAdvanced Features

Tap on Advanced Features and a new menu will appear, Scroll through this menu until you come to the option for Motions and gestures. Tap on this option.

Once you tap on the Motions and Gestures option a new menu will appear. Go to the option Palm swipe to capture and enable this by toggling the button on.

This option enables you to capture a screenshot by a simple swipe of the palm of your hand across the screen of your device. This is a really cool and easy feature that allows you to capture a screenshot with minimal effort! This is the option I prefer when taking a screenshot as it is just so quick and easy to do. See a quick video how-to below:

Technique No.3

If you have a Galaxy Note 10 or 20, you'll have all the functionality that the S Pen brings. See our article on other things you can do with the S Pen, it's a fab accessory to your device. Take out the S Pen and tap on Smart Select. You can then choose from a square, rectangle, circle, free drawing tool, or even GIF tool, to select for your screenshot. If you tap the Square or Pin icon at the bottom left of the menu it will take a screenshot and automatically pin that image to your display.

Screenshot menu options

When you take a screenshot you will notice a variety of options at the bottom of the screen when the screenshot has been captured to share the image or store it.

These options at the bottom of the screen are as follows:

The first icon (4 corners with down arrows in the middle) only appears when screenshotting a web page or similar. This icon allows the page to be compressed into a format suitable for viewing such as the images below where version 1 is unformatted and version 2 is formatted into a much easier view, you can share this as a screenshot or web link.

The second icon is used to crop, edit, share and download once complete. For example, you can crop your screenshot to only show what you want to and also edit it by adding in text using the pen icon, there is an eraser icon next to this if you make a mistake.

The hashtag icon is next. This icon allows you to Tag the screenshot and share it on social media and so forth.

Last is the share icon. This enables you to share your screenshot wherever you want. there is also the option to edit in this setting.

As you can see in the first image I selected the pen icon and colored out 2 apps on my screen using the black marker option, if you notice the large gap next to the TalkAndroid icon. This is a handy feature to omit any apps or info you don't want to be saved into the screenshot such as names or other information. This option also gives you the choice as to how you want to share your screenshot, you can also remove location data, share as a link or nearby share, or Quick Share plus all the other file and app functions that appear.
