Looking for the easiest way to cancel Spotify Premium? It's not tough, but we'll walk you through the process to save you some time.
If you're looking for alternatives to Spotify so you can use something else to listen to music, we'll cover you there, too. Keep reading to find out how.
Cancel Spotify Premium
Spotify generally makes this process pretty simple. Since the service is prepaid, you're not locked into any contracts or anything, but you do want to remember to nix the subscription before your payment date so you don't get charged any extra after you've stopped paying.
- The first thing you'll want to do is log into Spotify's account page. Don't remember your password for this? Definitely follow their instructions to reset that first.
- Once you're logged in, you'll need to scroll down just a bit to see the “Your Plan” section. This will show you exactly what plan you're on, whether that's a regular streaming plan, family plan, or anything else that might be offered. Click that box that says “CHANGE PLAN.”
- Scroll down to “Spotify Free” and you'll see a box that says “CANCEL PREMIUM“. You guessed it, that's what we're looking for to cancel Spotify Premium. Click that plan and follow through with the confirmation prompts.
- Once you get through those prompts, you're all set. You'll keep your Premium plan until the end of your billing cycle, but after that it's back to the free-tier. You can still listen to music, but you will lose some features.
What does Spotify Premium do?
If you're on the free version of Spotify, you're probably already familiar with how the service works. You'll get ad-supported music, and you can only play music in shuffle mode. That limits your ability to pick and choose specific songs, or listen to albums.
If you are willing to sign up for Premium, you'll get a few more features.
- Choose your music
- No ads
- Unlimited skips
- Build a premium library of music
- Download for offline playback, including on Samsung Galaxy Watch

How much does Spotify cost?
Spotify has a few different pricing options, and you can pick and choose the best option based on your circumstances.
The free tier is, well, free; the service is totally ad-supported.
A regular Spotify Premium account costs $9.99 per month. If you're wanting to set up a family account, you can do that, too, and save some cash in the process. The family tier is $14.99 and covers up to six accounts. That's much less than the $9.99 per account on the individual plan, but you'll obviously have to sign up in a group for this one.
Lastly, Spotify offers a student plan at a nice discount. For just $4.99 you get all of the benefits of Spotify Premium, plus an ad-supported Hulu account and SHOWTIME. Considering ad-supported Hulu is more than $4.99 by itself, this makes a ton of sense if you're enrolled in an eligible school.
You can sign up here.

What if Spotify didn't cancel?
If you don't see the option to cancel Spotify Premium with this guide, that could mean a few things. You might already be on the free plan, so there's nothing to cancel; additionally, you could be paying for Spotify through another account, like iTunes, PlayStation, or your cell phone carrier.
In those cases, you'll have to go through the other account to stop paying. In the case of your phone carrier you might not really be able to “cancel” that since it's just baked in to the bill. Might as well enjoy the music at that point.
Spotify Alternatives
When you cancel Spotify Premium, you'll have to decide what you're going to do about music streaming. Maybe you don't care about streaming music and you'll just save the money every month, or you can live with the ad-supported streaming. But if you want something to replace the service after you cancel Spotify Premium, check out these alternatives.
YouTube Music
We've reviewed YouTube Music pretty thoroughly, and if you're looking for something to replace Spotify, it's not a bad option. You'll get quite a bit of extra YouTube integration, which is a plus for anyone that's already listening to music on Google's video streaming site, and it includes the option to get ad-free YouTube and some of the exclusive YouTube Originals, too. While it's probably not a better music-only service, it does offer some things that Spotify can't match.
Apple Music
Apple Music opens things up in a way that Spotify can't. While Spotify is excellent at offering playlists and music recommendations, it's actually not great at building and curating your own personal library of music. Inversely, that's exactly where Apple's music streaming service excels.
You can add music to your library, edit the music's info, and upload your own music, making this a better option for someone that cares as much about collecting music as listening to it.
