If you're an avid music listener or movie watcher on your phone, you probably have a good set of headphones, or you're looking for an upgrade. But with modern smartphones, you might not have the option to use older wired cans anymore, since many devices are ditching the headphone jack in favor of wireless options. And for some of us, even if you have a wired connection, you'd rather go Bluetooth and get the cables out of the way, anyway.
Regardless of why you're looking to cut that cable out of your life, we've got a pretty comprehensive list of some of the best wireless headphones for your smartphone. Check it out.
Best truly wireless: Anker Zolo Liberty
Looking to completely ditch the wires on your headphones and live a completely tangle free life? Wireless earbuds are the way to go, and they're better than ever.
Anker offers the Zolo Liberty headphones that deliver a great experience while addressing most of the common complaints about truly wireless earbuds. The battery life with the included charging case is insane, running for up to 100 hours before you need to plug it back in. That's easily some of the best on the market and will outlast almost anything you put up against it.
They also have great sound quality thanks to graphene drivers and sound-tight sealing in your ears thanks to the interchangeable tips and wings, which means you're getting killer bass response and a well-balanced tone from the headphones. You can also adjust it to your liking with the included app. And since it's using Bluetooth 5.0, you'll get fewer skips and disconnects with your phone.
They're also IPX5 rated for sweat resistance, so you can use them whether you're hanging out, staying home, or exercising. And at just $99, they're not ridiculously expensive, either. What's not to like?

Want the truly wireless design, but don't want to compromise on sound quality? Don't worry, you've got options there, too.
Master & Dynamic, a company known pretty exclusively for their high-end, audiophile grade equipment, has recently released a set of completely wire-free in-ear monitors. These use a high-quality beryllium driver to punch out some serious sound that'll make all of your AirPods wearing friends jealous. They've been tuned to deliver a massive, warm sound that'll bring your music to life in a way that you don't normally get on tiny little earbuds like this.
They have some other high-end features, too, like optical sensors to play and pause music when they're taken in and out of your ears, aptX support, and a very classy stainless steel case. They're still relying on Bluetooth 4.2, although that's not enough to take away from the stellar sound quality they deliver. They also come in 7 colors, which is pretty cool for anyone looking for a bit of personalization.

Best for the gym: Bose SoundSport Wireless

Headphones and music are the perfect companions for gym sessions, but you don't want to take any old pair to work out in. Well, you can, but there's no guarantee that they'll make it for more than a few trips before they get damaged from sweat and stop working.
If you're using some cheap $10 buds, sure, that's fine; but if you want something that doesn't sound terrible and you don't have to recharge every hour, you'll want to step up to the Bose SoundSport Wireless headphones.
These headphones deliver classic Bose sound, which is usually enough of a selling point on their own. But they're also IPX4 rated to resist sweat and weather damage and stay charged for up to 6 hours, which should cover even the most intense workout sessions. And thanks to Bose's StayHear+ winged tips, you won't have to worry about them getting uncomfortable or falling out of your ears, either.
Best premium headphones: Sony WH-1000XM3
Sony's naming conventions and mode numbers are some of the worst on the planet, but that doesn't mean that their WH-1000XM3 headphones aren't some of the best on the planet. You're getting an ultra-premium headset with industry-leading noise cancellation, deep and powerful sound, and a comfortable fit so you're not irritated after a couple of hours of listening to music.
Sony has also managed to deliver 30 hours of battery life in these cans, which can then be recharged for 5 hours of playback in just 10 minutes thanks to the zippy fast charging and USB-C port. Yep, these headphones can share a charger with your Galaxy S10. That's a selling point on its own.
The headphones do utilize some touch controls on the earpieces, which can be a little tricky to get used to, but they let you do some cool things like cupping your ear to lower the volume so you can hear what's going on around you. If you want great sound and don't want to make any compromises, here's your option.

Affordable noise cancellation: AKG N60NC
If you're itching for that high-quality noise cancellation but can't stomach $300 headphones, Samsung-owned AKG has an excellent alternative. The AKG N60NC was also the pair of headphones that were given away in Samsung's Galaxy Note 9 pre-order promo, so you know Samsung is even happy with them.
At roughly half the price of Sony's option, you're still getting a set of cans with a pretty balanced sound across lows, mids, and highs, and some really good noise cancellation that will save your ears the pain of having to always listen to your music blaring loud. They're also pretty comfortable and come with their own nice little carrying case.
They do use micro USB instead of USB C, unfortunately, and the sound profile on these isn't particularly bass heavy, which may be a turn off for some listeners. But overall, you can't go wrong here for the price.

Budget-friendly, high quality: JBL Tune 500BT

Expensive headphones are great, but let's be real; you don't always need them. Maybe you're buying for a gift, or you just aren't super picky about sound quality. If that's the case, you can't go wrong with some of JBL's more affordable cans.
The JBL Tune 500BT are part of JBL's relatively newer Tune line of headphones, and they offer a foldable design, 16 hours of music playback, and signature, thumping JBL sound. They're lightweight and easy to carry around, too, making the perfect companion for casual listening or just something to throw in your overnight bag when you're travelling.
But they don't skimp on higher-end features despite the more affordable price tag, offering quick charge (5 minutes gets you an hour of playback), support for digital voice assistants, and pretty decently sized 32mm drivers. Plus you can get them in a few different colors, including black, white, blue, and pink.
Easy on the wallet: iFrogz Plugz earbuds

Lastly, if you're the kind of person that just knows you're going to tear headphones up, or lose them on the bus, you probably don't want to put much money into them. If you're trying to save some cash, I actually really like the iFrogz Plugz wireless headphones for their versatile design and good audio, despite their very low price tag.
You can pick up some of these for around $10 depending on the color you like, but don't let that fool you. They won't make any audiophiles happy, but they do the job whether you're watching YouTube, streaming Spotify, or just playing games. But the design of these things is really cool and something I wish more manufacturers would emulate.
The main piece of the headphones that houses the battery and buttons also doubles as a clip, which is great for wearing while you're listening, but it also gives you an easy way to wrap your headphones up when you're not using them. That just might keep you from losing them, too.
