There's big news in carrier world today with T-Mobile announcing that it has agreed to pick up Mint Mobile for $1.35 Billion, which probably means a tidy sum of dough will be headed to the guy who plays the Merch-with-a-Mouth, part-owner Ryan Reynolds. That's the headline part of the deal anyway, the overall announcement is how the Uncarrier is acquiring the Ka'ena Corporation and its subsidiaries.

Besides the acquisition of Mint Mobile, the deal means that T-Mobile is also buying brands such as Ultra Mobile, and Plum. Reynolds will remain in his creative role for Mint for the foreseeable future, and it's said that nothing will change at this time.

“Mint Mobile is the best deal in wireless and today’s news only enhances our ability to deliver for our customers. We are so happy T-Mobile beat out an aggressive last-minute bid from my mom Tammy Reynolds as we believe the excellence of their 5G network will provide a better strategic fit than my mom’s slightly-above-average mahjong skills. I am so proud of the entire Mint team and so excited for what’s to come,” said Ryan Reynolds.“

That $1.35 Billion payment consists of 61% stock and 39% cash and will be paid to Ka'ena during certain periods before and after the closing of the deal. The purpose of the deal, according to T-Mobile, is so the Uncarrier can continue to competitive pricing to its customers. Mike Seivert, CEO of T-Mobile, says that Mint's marketing formula will be applied across the brands in the long term, which may see Ryan Reynolds appearing in the Uncarrier's adverts, although that last bit is speculation on my part.

For the moment, there shouldn't be any noticeable changes for Mint/Ultra Mobile or T-Mobile customers to notice. Neither will the deal add much in the way of T-Mobile's core adjusted earnings.
