An important individual within IPC's Strategic Investment Department, Aventurine is the second character released in Honkai: Star Rail 2.1, following the arrival of Acheron, the self-made Galaxy Ranger.

Capable of summoning impenetrable shields, his proficiencies involve follow-up attacks too, making it a bit awkward to build him around both. Fortunately, that's where we come in.

Cunning, meticulous, and indulging in riddles, Aventurine seems to have a hidden agenda coming to Penacony, but his gameplay kit was already revealed weeks prior for the world to see.

In Honkai: Star Rail, his playstyle revolves around his Fortified Wager shields, protecting all allies while generating Blind Bet stacks to unleash follow-up attacks against random foes.

Topaz and Numby are quite the strong pair in Honkai: Star Rail; let's check out their best…

Follow-up attacks seem to be a common theme in the IPC, with Topaz also specializing in them. Regardless, Aventurine's profile differs in the use of his shields, and his best in-game build should look like this:

Inherently Unjust Destiny

Staying true to his kit's most promising potential, this overall setup makes Aventurine a legitimate stone wall to bring down, notwithstanding the improved toughness of his shields to allies.

He might even be miles better than the Fire Trailblazer who's arguably the best early-game free-to-play (F2P) tank in Honkai: Star Rail (unless you get lucky with your Stellar Warps).

Aventurine Alternate Light Cones

Surprisingly, despite his Fortified Wager shields being his most prized ability, Aventurine can also deal respectable follow-up damage due to his Talent, Shot Loaded Right.

So, you can also use a different Light Cone if his exclusive 5-star one, Inherently Unjust Destiny, is just too hard to get. These are some amazing suggestions depending on how you want your Aventurine build to be:

Light Cone

Effect(s)

Icon for the Concert for Two light cone from Honkai: Star Rail.

Concert for Two

Defense is increased by 16% – 32%

Each shielded ally increases Aventurine's damage dealt to enemies by 4% – 8%

Icon for the Trend of the Universal Market light cone from Honkai: Star Rail.

Trend of the Universal Market

Defense is increased by 16% – 32%

Upon being attacked, there's a 100% – 120% base chance for the attacker to be Burned, suffering 40% – 80% of Aventurine's Defense as DoT (2 turns)

Icon for the Destiny's Threads Forewoven light cone from Honkai: Star Rail.

Destiny's Threads Forewoven

Effect Resistance is increased by 12% – 20%

Aventurine's outgoing damage is increased by 0.8% – 1.2% for every 100 Defense value (up to a maximum of 32% – 48%)

Aventurine is a hugely versatile character to play with, being defensively astute and offensively capable.

As such, swapping his Light Cone for a more suitable one that synergizes with your current team composition is still viable, such as equipping the Trend of the Universal Market to complement a DoT-based party.

Aventurine Alternate Relics

If you're playing Aventurine as a true tank/ guardian, the full Knight of Purity Palace set is recommended. But, this can be changed on the fly to accommodate different Aventurine builds.

To this end, here are a few different Relics to consider when opting for these relevant setups (or something similar):

Balanced Build

Cavern Relics Set

Effect(s)

Knight of Purity Palace cavern relics set's icon from Honkai: Star Rail.

Knight of Purity Palace
(2-piece)

(2-piece) Increases Defense by 15%

The Ashblazing Grand Duke cavern relic set's icon from Honkai: Star Rail.

The Ashblazing Grand Duke
(2-piece)

(2-piece) Increases follow-up attacks' damage by 20%

Combining these 2-piece sets ensures you cover all the bases (attacking and defending benefits). Plus, Aventurine's follow-up attack's damage is based on his overall Defense stat as well, so you're bolstering his potential DPS either way.

Planar Ornaments Set

Effect(s)

Inert Salsotto planar ornaments set's icon from Honkai: Star Rail.

Inert Salsotto

Increases Critical Rate by 8%

If the total Critical Rate is at 50% or higher, Aventurine's Ultimate and follow-up attacks deal 15% more damage

The Inert Salsotto set gets Aventurine's Critical Rate slightly higher, and this can be further increased through gear stats.

Hence, getting it past 50% won't be too hard, especially when you want to take advantage of Aventurine's Ultimate's Unnerved debuff on enemies.

Destructive Follow-Up Build

Relic Set

Effect(s)

The Ashblazing Grand Duke
(4-piece)

(2-piece) Increases follow-up attacks' damage by 20%

(4-piece) For every follow-up attack landing on the target, increases Aventurine's Attack by 6% (stacks up to 8 times, lasting 3 turns)*

*Effect is dispelled when a new follow-up attack is used/ triggered

Aventurine's follow-up attacks hit 7 times each (up to 10 times when his 4th Eidolon is unlocked). With a complete Grand Duke set, all his attacks become significantly empowered afterward!

Planar Ornaments Set

Effect(s)

Inert Salsotto

Increases Critical Rate by 8%

If the total Critical Rate is at 50% or higher, Aventurine's Ultimate and follow-up attacks deal 15% more damage

Leveraging on the improved attack bonuses, the Inert Salsotto set makes the most sense here too!

Imaginary Damage Build

Relic Set

Effect(s)

Wasteland of Banditry Desert (Cavern Relics) set's icon from Honkai: Star Rail.

Wastelander of Banditry Desert
(4-piece)

(2-piece) Increases Imaginary Damage by 10%

(4-piece) Upon attacking debuffed enemies, Aventurine's Critical Rate is increased by 10%

(4-piece) Increases Critical Damage by 20% against Imprisoned foes (Weakness Broken from Imaginary Damage)

Equipping the Wasteland Banditry set optimizes Aventurine's damage against foes struck by his Ultimate, Roulette Shark.

Not only that; getting that 10% increased Critical Rate can be good for all his attacks when slotting him in a Nihility-focused team.

Planar Ornaments Set

Effect(s)

Broken Keel (Planar Ornament) set's icon from Honkai: Star Rail.

Broken Keel

Increases Effect Resistance by 10%

If Effect Resistance is at 30% or higher, all allies' Critical Damage is increased by 10%

Having Broken Keel on Aventurine is straightforward; his Fortified Wager shield grants him free Effect Resistance, so getting it up to enjoy the Critical Damage buff (applied to everyone) jives with the Wasteland Banditry set earlier!

Aventurine Best Team

Collaged images of Aventurine and the Trailblazer's team in Honkai: Star Rail.
Photo: miHoYo

Aventurine's team role is quite flexible, letting him join anyone on almost any team requiring a tank/ sustain.

Still, not every character can synergize with him on a personal level, to which some might benefit from his follow-up attacks while others diminish their potential DPS by having him around.

So, here's a look at some of the best team compositions you can have alongside Aventurine:

Hypercarry Team

Lynx's icon in Honkai: Star Rail.

Lynx

Keeping everyone safe from harm, Aventurine lets Seele and Pela do their work, getting enemies' Defense values down before subduing them one by one in quick succession.

If things get dicey, Lynx is there with her heals besides channeling the mob's aggro to Aventurine due to his Preservation type.

This follow-up attack party is an exciting one; Aventurine, Dr. Ratio, and Topaz combine to deal nearly non-stop follow-up attack carnage onto enemies.

With Gallagher on the team, he can apply his signature Besotted debuff on all foes, letting everyone continuously heal themselves from their persistent follow-up attacks!

Penacony Dream Team

Sparkle's icon in Honkai: Star Rail.

Sparkle

Penacony's finest star-studded team as of yet, grouping Aventurine with the other Penacony heavy-hitters is a joy to watch albeit an excruciatingly difficult one to achieve.

Acheron is the team's main DPS dealer, with Black Swan applying her Arcana stacks to facilitate Acheron's Ultimate.

Sparkle does Sparkle things by giving ample Skill Points for everyone to utilize (besides Advanced Forward and damage buffs), letting Aventurine spam his Fortified Wager shields often.

Overview

Photo: miHoYo

Aventurine's role as the party's tank/ sustain is unquestionable. His Fortified Wager shields not only protect allies, but they also improve their Effect Resistance.

His Blind Bet stacks (subsequently, his follow-up attack) are what you can experiment with him, creating different builds and applying various gear that could lead to some ingenious strategies.

To prove this point, let's take a look at his kit to get a better idea of what he can really do:

Abilities

Skill

Effect(s)

Basic Attack

Straight Bet

Deals 50% – 110% of Defense as Imaginary Damage to an enemy

Toughness Damage: 30
Energy Generated: 20

Skill

Cornerstone Deluxe

Creates Fortified Wager shields surrounding each ally, blocking damage equal to 16% – 25.6% of Aventurine's Defense + (80 to 356) value (3 turns)

Fortified Wagers shields can be strengthened up to 200% when the Skill is used repeatedly

Energy Generated: 30

Talent

Shot Loaded Right

Allies protected by the Fortified Wager shields receive 25% – 55% Effect Resistance

Aventurine receives crowd-control (CC) immunity when protected by a Fortified Wager shield (triggers once every 2 turns)

Every enemy attack on allies protected by Fortified Wager shields will generate 1 stack of Blind Bet (attacks on a shielded Aventurine generate 2 Blind Bet stacks)

When there are 7 or more Blind Bet stacks, Aventurine consumes 7 of them to unleash a 7-hit follow-up attack dealing 12.5% – 27.5% of his Defense as Imaginary Damage onto a random enemy (Blind Bet stacks capped at 10)

Toughness Damage: 10
Energy Generated: 1

Ultimate

Roulette Shark

Gains a random amount of Blind Bet stacks (between 1 to 7), deals 162% – 291.6% of Aventurine's Defense as Imaginary Damage to a single target, and then inflicts Unnerved* onto them (lasts 3 turns)

*Unnerved:
Increases Critical Damage received by 9% – 16.2%

Toughness Damage: 90
Energy Cost: 110
Energy Generated: 5

Truly, Aventurine is a superb character to have at the front, boasting durable shields protecting everyone while offering satisfying damage output as well.

It's no wonder many players can get conflicted about saving those Star Rail Special Passes to pull for either him or Acheron in version 2.1, so make sure to check our guide on who you should get in-game.

Traces

TraceEffect(s)

Leverage

After achieving a value of 1600 Defense, every 100 Defense afterward increases Aventurine's Critical Rate by 2% (up to a maximum of 48%)

Hot Hand

Upon entering battle, everyone in the party instantly receives a Fortified Wager shield (3 turns)

Bingo!

If an ally with Fortified Wager executes a follow-up attack, Aventurine gets 1 Blind Bet stack (can trigger up to 3 times per follow-up attack), resetting once Aventurine begins his turn

When Aventurine's follow-up attack is triggered, all allies get a Fortified Wager shield blocking damage equal to 7.2% of his Defense + 96 (3 turns)

The ally with the lowest HP gets another Fortified Wager shield of the same value on top of it, doubling its effects (3 turns)

Getting Aventurine's Traces up is a surefire way to conserve your Skill Points during battle, immediately allowing your DPS-focused characters to wreak havoc.

Besides these three primary ones, Aventurine's other Traces improve his Imaginary Damage, Defense, and Effect Resistance, making him even harder to take down!

By having Aventurine's Eidolons unlocked, he is ever closer to becoming the legitimate threat that he was in the Penacony storyline!

That being said, it's going to be a grinding nightmare because you'll need infinite amounts of Stellar Jades to do so (unless you purchase them using real-world money).

Fortunately, Aventurine is already great without his Eidolons revealed, so casual players can still enjoy him the most by pulling for him through actual gameplay.
