Picture this: you’re driving home, hunger strikes, but instead of having to juggle apps or risk distraction, Google Maps could soon let you chat about what you want for dinner and place an order—all while you safely keep your eyes on the road.

Gemini’s Potential New Role in Google Maps

Google’s AI assistant Gemini has been expanding into many of the company’s apps, including Google Maps. While Gemini is already integrated with the navigation app, Google has reportedly been developing new agent features that could allow Gemini to complete tasks for you—like ordering food online—directly in Maps. This would mean you might be able to simply tell Google Maps what you’re craving, initiate a search, and place an order through a conversational interface, making the process hands-free while driving.

Feature Hinted at in Google Maps Code

So far, Google hasn’t made any official announcements about this food-ordering functionality. However, according to Android Authority, code found within Google Maps contains hints about the upcoming feature. The code indicates users will be able to describe to Google Maps what kind of meal they want, start a search, and place an order—all with Gemini managing the process, even while you’re on the move.

Status: Still in Development

Currently, the feature is reportedly still in development. The exact release date remains unknown, and details about how it will work have yet to be confirmed. One critical technical question is whether the feature will rely on cloud processing or use your phone’s hardware. If local processing is required, the feature might only be available on higher-end smartphones. If cloud computing powers the service, it may reach a broader range of devices, including more affordable models.

Who Might Get Access First?

It's possible—though unconfirmed—that the feature could debut first for users in the United States or for English speakers. There’s no information yet about a wider international rollout. Regardless, this development offers a glimpse of how Google Maps could soon provide even more convenient, hands-free assistance for users on the go.

For now, stay tuned. Hands-free dinner orders through Maps could soon move from idea to everyday convenience.
