The Trump phone has no relation to Trump beyond the name, yet quite comically its popularity has grown on that name alone. The phone has done its country a disservice in a new leak, which disappointingly is not for hardware.
Trump Mobile has confirmed it exposed customer names, email addresses, home addresses, phone numbers, and order identifiers to the open internet. The company says there was no breach of its network or systems. It's also still deciding whether you need to be formally notified or not.
Trump Mobile's T1 launch is off to a rocky start
A security researcher discovered that Trump Mobile customer data is publicly available online. The researcher tried to alert Trump Mobile directly, but got no response.
They then went to two YouTubers, Coffeezillaextras and penguinz0, who then ordered the phone. Both experienced the leak and tried to report it to Trump Mobile themselves, while getting no response.
In particular, Coffeezillaextras confirmed that “everything short of credit card number tied to him had been made public in a four-minute video. That included his mailing and email addresses.
It was only when the story became popular that Trump Mobile acknowledged the exposure. While in talks with TechCrunch, they blamed a nameless third-party platform and insisted there was no breach of its own systems. The messy product launch already tells you about the company and its future.
The Trump Phone was a scandal before it was even real
Before the Trump phone existed, it was controversial. It was first announced in the middle of 2025 as a virtual carrier under T1 Mobile LLC. They were licensing the Trump name and associating with the T1 phones they planned to launch, although the Trump family does not run it.
The company also claimed to have manufactured the devices in the USA, even though the country doesn't have the infrastructure to produce mass-market smartphones at scale. Trump himself admitted the claim is not true.
After six months and $100 deposits collected from customers, the Eleven Democratic lawmakers wrote to the Federal Trade Commission asking for an investigation into possible false advertising and deceptive practices.
The allegation was that Trump Mobile was selling refurbished iPhones and Samsung devices imported from China and Korea while marketing them as American-made.
Trump Mobile’s T1 Phone is now available, and the carrier runs three plans. Pricing starts at $48 monthly for unlimited talk, text, 20GB of high-speed data, international calling to 230+ countries, device protection, roadside assistance, and telehealth. The Family Plan and Military Plan are more like discounted versions of the same plan.
However, the data leak alone is reason enough to pause any purchases. This is not a company that has earned your personal information, let alone your money.
