To stay competitive and to keep up to date with the needs of customers, carriers regularly introduce new plans that come with new pricing, new value, and new bonuses. In T-Mobile's case, its outgoing plans were under the Go5G moniker and replaced a lot of its older offerings, such as those under the Magenta and One names.
Older plans are referred to as legacy plans, and even when there are newer options available, some customers stick with their older plans. However, T-Mobile has taken matters into its own hands and forcibly shifted some of these legacy plan subscribers over to its newer lineup of options. Is that a bad thing? Well, it doesn't seem to be.
T-Mobile Is Forcibly Switching Some Legacy Plan Users Over to Go5G Plus

If you've been a T-Mobile subscriber for quite some time, it is very likely that you subscribed to one of its legacy plans at some point in time. Remember Magenta, or T-Mobile One? Maybe you're still on one of those plans up until now, perhaps because you get a unique perk that you'd lose if you chose to leave. For instance, that could be a free line or a discount of some sort.

If you were on a legacy plan this month, you might not be on a legacy plan by next month. T-Mobile has decided to take control and has automatically switched a bunch of customers on legacy plans over to its newer Go5G Plus offering. According to a T-Mobile employee over on Reddit, the following plans are the ones that will be automatically switched:
- Magenta Max
- Magenta Plus
- One Plus
- Sprint Max
There doesn't seem to be any way to opt out of this, and once you're switched over, you're not going to be able to switch, especially since some of the above plans have been grandfathered already.
Besides Not Being in Control, There's No Downside to Switching to Go5G Plus

Now, you might not like the fact that T-Mobile took matters into its own hands and switched you over without consent. Sure, that's not a cool way to handle things. However, when you really look at the details of this switch over, it's hard to say that there's really any downside to the whole thing. Here's why:
- You are being switched to Go5G Plus at no extra cost, so your monthly bill won't change.
- The upgrade will only take place with your next billing cycle after August 13th, so you have time to cancel your T-Mobile subscription or opt into another plan if you don't like it.
- You keep all the benefits that you were enjoying, which include discounts, free lines, streaming perks, and others.
- You get the added benefits of the Go5G Plus plan, including better phone deals, 50GB hotspot data, and 15GB for roaming in Canada and Mexico.
So, despite it looking pretty bad on the surface, it's hard to say that there's anything but upside for you as a customer. The carrier will send you another notification, 14 days before the change actually happens, so you can choose your plan of action at that point.
