The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 (along with the Z Flip 7 and Z Flip 7 FE) launched earlier this year, and it has arguably gotten the most attention of any Samsung foldable since the very first one. In fact, there's been so much attention that the Z Fold 7 has outsold the Flip 7 for the first time in some significant markets. That's a very good sign.
I get it, though. The Z Fold 7 is a terrific device. Samsung shaves down several millimeters from its build, improves the camera, focuses on performance, and packs the device full of several AI-powered software features. However, for a device so thin and so expensive, how fragile is it? JerryRigEverything, in usual fashion, has tested that out.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 Shockingly Holds Its Own in a Brutal Bend Test

In the past, I haven't been a person with much praise for Samsung's foldables. However, this year, the company finally sat up and decided to take things seriously, and I was left with no choice but to acknowledge how well the OEM delivered in 2025. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is one of the thinnest foldables in the world, and to the eye, it actually looks thinner than the actual thinnest foldable, the Honor Magic V5.
However, with Samsung jumping up the slimness rankings so aggressively this year, you might wonder how much that impacts the durability of the device. That's a good question, and needless to say, the torture test tyrant, JerryRigEverything, has put the device through its paces.
For full context, no Samsung foldable device has failed the bend test before. The phone might only be 4.2mm when opened up, but that 4.2mm is heavy-duty. Despite using what was obviously an excessive amount of physical force, not only did the Z Fold 7 not snap or break, but it remained fully functional afterward. Yep, even the inner screen was fine. The back glass did lift from the phone, but even that didn't shatter. Credit to you, Samsung.
The Phone Manages to Survive Dust and Scratches Admirably

Of course, Zack's test isn't only about bending the phone. He also puts it through other paces, by burning it, scratching it, and testing its dust resistance. As to how well it did in those other categories? Well, it won't get a perfect score, but it had a pretty solid showing.
- Burn Test: Under the flame of a lighter, the foldable screen permanently discolored after 10 seconds. On the other side, the cover display suffered the same fate after 15 seconds.
- Scratch Test: The cover screen is protected by Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, and as expected, it started to scratch at a Mohs level 6. Of course, the inner screen is still very soft, so all you need is a level 2 to leave permanent grooves.
- Dust Test: The IP48 dust resistance is impressive, with dust poured directly over the hinge failing to impede the device from folding and unfolding. There isn't even a grinding sound, which is a significant improvement.
