There's a lot of exciting stuff happening in the smartphone space this year. One of those things is that Nothing, a relatively young smartphone company that has specialized in midrange devices, is going to be releasing its first flagship device this year. The company has been doing a good job teasing the phone.
Thanks to the people at Android Headlines, we can skip the entire teasing thing that Nothing has going on, and get straight to seeing what the device is going to look like. Nothing's smartphones have had unique designs, but this one is bound to be especially polarizing. Perhaps quirky has gone a bit too far.
The Nothing Phone 3 Is Going to Have a Very Unusual Design

Ever since its very first smartphone, Nothing has made devices that can't be mistaken for anything else in the market—that's how unique they've been up until this point. The company has been able to build a substantial fanbase off of that design philosophy, and even though its previous devices don't appeal to me specifically, I can't say that they repelled me (though the Nothing Phone 3a Pro was very close to doing that).
However, everything can come to an end. The Nothing Phone 3 is the next smartphone in line for the company, and looking at earlier renders provided by the folks at Android Headlines, I think this might be the first device from the OEM that I absolutely don't like the look of.
The device is visually unique, but making something unique isn't hard. Making something unique and visually appealing is the challenging part, and I don't think Nothing did that here. Of course, this is subjective, and you might think it is gorgeous. But the back panel of the phone is chaotic, and the periscope camera placement has me scratching my head. As a flagship, it needs mass appeal, and I think the Phone 3's design will kill that.
The Battery and Charging Speed of the Nothing Phone 3 Have Been Confirmed

Let's break away from the visuals of the Nothing Phone 3 and take a look at what is under the hood for a bit. While the spec sheet hasn't been made official, we have gotten confirmation on the phone's battery and charging specs thanks to the FCC and SGS certifications. On top of that, we also get a look at some of the connectivity specifications for the upcoming smartphone.
| Nothing Phone 3 | |
| Android Version | Android 15, Nothing OS 3.3 |
| Battery | 5,150mAh |
| Charging | 65W wired |
| Wi-Fi | Wi-Fi 6E |
| NFC | Yes |
A 5,150mAh isn't what most people would hope for in the current battery landscape, but it's not an objectively “bad” capacity. 65W wired fast charging is solid too. I do find it interesting that the phone seems set to launch with Android 15 instead of Android 16, which has launched already. Other specs we expect include:
- 6.7-inch OLED FHD+ screen
- Snapdragon 8s Gen 4
- 50MP periscope telephoto camera
- Black and White colorways

The device is expected to launch on July 1st, which is only a few days away. On top of that, Nothing will unveil its first set of over-ear headphones, the Nothing Headphone 1, which I'm looking forward to seeing. The design has leaked, and in complete contrast to the Phone 3, I think the Headphone 1 looks great.
