Motorola’s foldables have been steadily maintaining a clamshell design, even with competition from Samsung, Oppo, and others. Some brands are not after radical changes after all, and it's not a bad thing as long as they refine the existing technology. The last Razr 50 Ultra, launched in June 2024, embraced this approach with a near full-sized cover screen. Now, Motorola is back with the Razr+ 2025, also known as the Razr 60 Ultra.

Motorola has a habit of using different names for the same device depending on the market, and the Razr+ 2025 / Razr 60 Ultra is no exception. The phone is set to launch this year, as implied by the name.

In North America, Motorola calls it the Razr+ 2025, following the regular naming pattern used in the USA and Canada. Meanwhile, in other global markets, it will launch as the Razr 60 Ultra, aligning with the branding Motorola uses in Europe and Asia, among other regions.

Codenamed Orion, the Razr 60 Ultra model upgrades to a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset from the previous Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. It's paired with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The 6.9-inch internal foldable display is exactly the same as before, with the outer screen fully supporting Android apps as well. Another familiar thing is the 4,000mAh battery.

Courtesy of popular leaker Evan Blass, we have a good look at the phone’s design.  We see it in a striking red color that he calls Rio Red, with an edge-to-edge display and a punch-hole camera at the top center. When folded, the secondary display on the outer part of the phone takes up half the space, along with dual cameras.

The back still has a leather-effect, which is possibly the same vegan leather as the Razr 50 Ultra. So far, two color models have surfaced in leaks. The previous one was in green. There may be more on the way.

Major performance boost with Snapdragon 8 Elite chip

Although camera specifications for the Razr 60 Ultra are still largely unconfirmed, Motorola might give us the same 50MP wide-angle and telephoto cameras on the Razr 50 Ultra. There's not much needed from higher megapixels, so they might focus on sensor improvements and software processing coupled with AI-powered features.

The United Arab Emirates' Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) have already certified the upcoming device on their website, listing it under the model number XT2551. A release is imminent, with our expectations looking towards June as the company has targeted before.

However, the phone is about to get a lot more expensive, and the reason is as simple as the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. Being the latest and most powerful chip from Qualcomm, it's more powerful than the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 in almost every aspect. Picture a higher CPU and GPU performance, better efficiency, faster memory bandwidth, and improved AI capabilities around 10-30% speed over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 alone.

The 8s Gen 3, on the other hand, is a cost-effective solution with the same 4nm process as the regular 8 Gen 3, but its CPU configuration is slightly dialed back, with a lower-clocked prime core around 3.0 GHz and slightly reduced GPU power.

Motorola does tend to keep phone pricing fairly stable, but the upgrades will call for an increase. The Razr 50 Ultra launched at around £726 (≈918, so the Razr 60 Ultra might land between £750 (≈978) and £800 (≈1,011).
