Vivo's latest addition to its smartphone lineup, the Vivo V30, has been officially unveiled, marking the beginning of its global rollout across various international markets. The announcement was strangely not as huge as with the likes of other early Q1 2024 releases. But it showcases a combination of its anticipated features as teased earlier in January, including the expected Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 generational update.
Biggest Featured Upgrade: The Camera
According to Vivo’s spec details, its OmniVision OV50E sensor is incorporated into its high-resolution 50MP VCS True Color Main Camera, wide-angle AF Ultra Wide-Angle Camera, and even its AF Group Selfie Camera! Yes, I confirmed both the front and back. This is integrated with various camera adjustment technologies like Aura Light Portrait and Smart Color Temperature.
The aim for this, as usual, is detail preservation in low-light environments, as well as other conditions where what you see cannot be captured as accurately in a typical camera. The V30 even offers creative photography modes like Food Mode for capturing specific image types under those not-so-optimal conditions.
Performance and Display
As with many flagship and higher-tier smartphones of 2024, the Vivo V30 uses a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset. It is not exactly a quantum leap in raw numbers but it is still considerably better than the Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 in synthetic benchmarks, even if both are made with the same configuration and process node.
12GB remains the typical standard RAM option for capacities 256GB and up, which is maxed at 512GB (256GB is available in both 8GB and 12GB RAM variants). The use of UFS 2.2 for storage is odd, however, considering that other typical mid-range smartphones in 2023 are already built with UFS 3.0 as the minimum standard.
As for its screen, the Vivo V30 features your typical 6.78-inch, 1260×2800 AMOLED display that supports HDR10+ and has a 120Hz refresh rate. It uses a Schott Alpha glass for protection.
Battery and Operating System
Running on Funtouch 14, based on Android 14, the Vivo V30 comes with the advertised promise of a “50-month smooth experience.” Its battery is a 5000 mAh unit that supports 80W FlashCharge, which sounds typical for phones of its expected tier. But, it is actually a considerable upgrade from its predecessor, which previously had 4800 mAh and only supported 44W for high-speed charging.
If Vivo’s claims are true, then this new battery can theoretically last for 23 days on standby and can be fully charged (from zero to a hundred) in less than 50 minutes.
Other Features
As with most smartphones of its tier, a built-in vapor-chamber-based cooling system is installed; it has an IP54 rating and will support Bluetooth 5.4, though it stays on WiFi 6.
The Vivo V30 will also come in four color variants: Bloom White, Waving Aqua, Lush Green, and Noble Black. Each version showcases a different dynamic pattern on its surface. For example, Waving Aqua has a rippling particle effect, and Lush Green can switch hues.
Price and Availability
The Vivo V30 is set to make its debut in over 30 markets, including India, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and more. There is no specific pricing yet, though it may be better to check local availability for those details while we wait a few more days.
