Samsung finally opens the floodgates of confirmed information as we officially see the specs of the three flavors of the upcoming Galaxy S24. Like its direct predecessors, any one of them will always be an excellent buy. But if we were to choose, we believe that the smartest choice would yet again be a Plus model, which this time is the Galaxy S24+. Here are five reasons why:

A Balanced Tradition

Yup, we’re telling it right off the bat. With the specs now unveiled, it turns out that balanced hardware offering still continues with the Galaxy S24+. With an MSRP of $1250 and $1390 for the 256 GB and 512 GB versions, respectively, it offers a significantly lower price point for a lot of features.

Important S24 Ultra-level changes include native availability of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for international versions, 12 GB RAM, a 6.7-inch screen, QHD+ screen resolution, 4900 mAh battery, and 45W wired charging, among other upgrades.

There are a few specs still equal to the base S24, such as the aluminum frame, color options, and cameras. But that is exactly the point. You get a balance of selected upgraded specs with a higher emphasis on processing improvement akin to the S24 Ultra without the need to go all out for the S24 Ultra.

No Weird Limitations

For the base S24, we get the same treatment of “downgrading” the spec version of its storage to UFS 3.1 for the 128 GB model, as we previously saw with the S23. Its chipset also changes to an Exynos 2400 for the international versions, with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 only available in the US and Canada.

None of these are applied to the S24+ and S24 Ultra for their lower-end offerings, which use UFS 4.0 storage throughout.

In practice, these changes shouldn’t immediately change your user experience. The base S24 would still be as snappy as any latest flagship model. But it is still weird that these changes are present, given the fact that you are investing within such a high product tier.

Relatively Future-Proof

The Galaxy S24+ (and S24 Ultra) offers a slew of technological upgrades that are not relevant now but may be somewhat important in the near future, especially if you are aiming for a long-term investment.

WiFi 7, for example, promises considerable improvements in signal quality within congested environments. The new wireless standard should be able to help users overcome signal bottlenecking and interference in ever-increasing data-crowded areas for the next few years.

Another would be UWB support. While others may caution against its use in data collection and tracking, it still has important uses where higher bandwidth is necessary (personal area networks, indoor positioning, etc.). Especially since it won’t get mixed up in the sea of conventional narrowband and carrier wave transmissions of everyday digital hustle and bustle.

S24 Ultra-level Battery

Well, technically, they have a 100 mAh difference, but the battery capacity specs for the S24+ and S24 Ultra are essentially the same. You still get 98% of the latter’s battery and energy specs at a significantly lower cost. The same 45W wired charging feature is also available, easily compensating for its zero-to-full speed.

In fact, overall battery life may theoretically be longer than the S24 Ultra, with its slightly lower specs reducing minute consumptions across your everyday use.

4K 120fps Recording

Lastly, the S24+ preserves the same 4K recording options as the S24 Ultra, albeit with physical camera specs still the same as the base S24. Mileage may vary across users and visual applications, of course. But, the option is there, again at a cost that would not require you to go completely top-end.
