Coronation

As (some) Brits get ready to celebrate King Charle's Coronation tomorrow which will see the King ride around with the Queen Consort in a fancy new carriage with air-conditioning, there may be some viewers wishing they could get a closer look at the King's Coronation Crown and other assorted Crown Jewels. If so, Sky TV has you covered with this ‘ground-breaking' opportunity to see the Coronation Crown up close in your own home by way of AR (Augmented Reality) using your own smartphone or tablet.

Using AR technology, King Charle's Coronation Crown is able to be viewed on a 1:1 scale for the first time, as will the Queen Consort's Crown which is commonly known as Queen Mary's Crown.

Users will be able to ‘place' the crown on a flat and preferably matte surface, moving their device around to view it from different angles. You can look up close and check out the gold, diamonds, and precious stones embedded in the crown, learning about their history and craftsmanship by clicking on the hotspots via your phone/tablet.

“Anthony Geffen, CEO and Creative Director of Atlantic Productions, said: “While the ceremony itself is almost a millennium old, the royal household has granted use of the latest technologies to deliver a 21st century coronation, thereby allowing an object central to the coronation to be delivered via augmented reality into every home that has access to a smartphone or tablet.”

The experience also includes exclusive macro footage shot at the Tower of London of other significant crown jewels such as the Sword of Offering, the Sovereign's Sceptre, the Coronation Spoon, and the Sovereign's Orb.
