Find N2 Flip

Oppo has taken the wraps off its new range of foldable smartphones, the Find N2 which is sadly confined to the China market, and also the Find N2 Flip which will launch globally in early 2023. Powered by MediaTek's powerful Dimensity 9000+ chipset, the Find N2 Flip could be the answer to those who find the Galaxy Z Flip 4's secondary display to be low on usefulness.

Besides being powered by MediaTek's Dimensity 9000+, the Find N2 Flip will be available with 8/12/16GB RAM options and with a choice of 256/512GB of internal storage. Oppo claims all-day usage with the Find N2 Flip with the 4,300mAh battery which is the biggest found on any flip phone. Oppo's 44W SuperVOOC fast charging is also present, which means you won't suffer battery anxiety.

The internal display is 6.8 inches big with a 120Hz refresh rate and FHD+ resolution, along with UTG (Ultra-Thin-Glass) which Oppo claims achieves a “practically invisible crease”. The outer display uses the more customary Gorilla Glass 5 solution. There's a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, Bluetooth 5.3, and WiFi 6 support, and the Find N2 Flip also runs ColorOS 13 (Android 13) out of the box.

Boasting a 2nd-Gen Flexion Hinge which is made from carbon fiber and high-strength alloy, the Find N2 Flip promises a more usable experience thanks to its vertically aligned outer display which measures 3.26-inches as opposed to the 1.9-inch screen on the Galaxy Z Flip 4. That vertical alignment and a relatively standard aspect ratio means that the Find N2 Flip's cover display is more compatible with apps. Oppo says that the outer display will show information such as the weather, and act as a viewfinder for the cameras, widgets, and more.

The rear camera setup comprises of a 50MP main sensor and an 8MP super-wide-angle lens, while the punch-hole selfie camera on the main display has 32 megapixels.

Pricing

Pricing for the Find N2 Flip in China is as follows:

  • 8/256GB: CNY 5999 (~$860)
  • 12/256GB: CNY 6399 (~$915)
  • 16/512GB: CNY 6999 (~$1000)

While the Find N2 Flip is already available in China, Oppo has stated that the foldable will launch in Europe (and the UK) in early 2023. Color me excited, but Oppo could be the flip that the Galaxy Z Flip 4 could have been.

Unlike the Find N2 Flip, the Find N2 is not slated for release outside of China, mostly due to issues with popular Western apps. This is a huge shame as it's the phone I've been looking forward to this year.

Weighing in at just 233g, the Find N2 is the lightest horizontal folding phone – partly thanks to the 2nd-Gen Flexion hinge which is 42g lighter than on the Find N and now capable of opening at any angle between 45° and 125°.

The 7.1-inch internal display has a 1920 x 1792 resolution and an adaptive refresh rate of 1-120Hz, with a 67% smaller crease which Oppo says is “almost invisible”. The outer display is 5.54 inches big with a 2120 x 1080 resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. Both panels are pretty bright with the inner display capable of 1550 nits peak brightness and the outer screen 1350 nits.

Powering the Find N2 is Qualcomm's proven Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset which is accompanied by up to 16GB of RAM and up to 512GB of onboard storage. A 4.520mAh battery keeps the lights on and there's speedy 67W SuperVOOC charging on hand for rapid top-ups.

Following in the Find X5 Pro's footsteps, the Find N2 sports a camera setup with Hasselblad-branding and consisting of a 50MP main camera, a 48MP ultra-wide lens, and a 32MP telephoto lens capable of 2x optical zoom. The cover screen has a 32MP selfie camera embedded within the punch-hole in the top left corner.

As with the Find N2 Flip, the Find N2 runs ColorOS 13 (Android 13) out of the box. As mentioned, the software issues with Western apps are the main reason that Oppo's Find N2 is not being launched globally, but who knows, maybe the developers will make a breakthrough. In the meantime, the Find N2 Flip is certainly worth a closer look for those thinking about picking up a vertically folding smartphone.
