Motorola is back with yet another pair of mid-range phones, this time in the guise of the Moto G 5G and the Moto G Stylus 5G. We've got the details for you after the break but let me whet your appetite right now with the news that one of the two phones actually supports NFC connectivity. That's right, there is such a thing as an NFC-toting phone in the Moto G series.

Thanks to its stylus and the inclusion of NFC connectivity which makes mobile payments possible, the Moto G Stylus 5G is the more exciting debutant. Make no mistake, it's still a low mid-range handset with its Snapdragon 695 processor, but it does pack in a handy 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. There's a big 5,000mAh battery along with the presence of another pair of deal-breaking features – MicroSD support and a 3.5mm audio jack. The 6.8-inch FHD+ display has a 120Hz refresh rate which is a nice boost over its predecessor. Camera-wise, there's a 50MP main rear sensor with OIS which is accompanied by an 8MP ultra-wide lens and a 2MP depth sensor. There's also a side-mounted fingerprint reader. As you might expect from the name, 5G connectivity is also present.

The Moto G Stylus 5G runs on Android 12 but as you might expect from Motorola these days, there's a single major update and that's it. It will cost $499 when it goes on sale in unlocked format on April 28th at Best Buy, Amazon, and directly from Motorola with Verizon, Google Fi, AT&T, and Cricket Wireless scheduled to stock it in the months ahead.

The Moto G 5G comes in at $399 and sports a 6.5-inch HD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate. The grunt is produced by MediaTek's Dimensity 700 chipset which is accompanied by 6GB of RAM and 256GB of expandable storage. As with the Moto G Stylus 5G, there is a headphone jack and MicroSD card support although NFC is missing, of course. Bringing up the rear is a 5,000mAh battery, a 50MP main camera, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. The Moto G 5G is said to go on sale from May 19th.

  1. I don’t like that Motorola only provides 1 major Android Update and doesn’t provide NFC on it’s cheaper phones. Most all other OEMS provide at least 2 major updates and include NFC. Motorola needs to change its policy it wants to be a major player. Almost everywhere accepts contactless pay, so NFC is a must.
