Having launched its new $10 Connect prepaid plan during March, T-Mobile will be bringing a new bottom tier to its postpaid plans called the ‘Base Essentials' which starts off from $45 for a single line with 20GB of premium data. It sounds cheap enough, but there are a few caveats to be aware of.

T-Mobile's new Base Essentials postpaid plan has limited benefits 4

Up to four lines are allowed on the Base Essentials plan which unfortunately isn't eligible for most of T-Mobile's device promotions or offers, nor does it include taxes or fees in the total. Once that 20GB of premium data is gone, you'll be restricted to 1.5Mbps download speed until your data allowance is refreshed. If you need a new device you'll probably still need to undergo a credit check for financing, and don't expect to get discounts when enrolling on AutoPay.

It's not all bad because you do get unlimited texts and talk, an unlimited 3G hotspot (600kbps), and unlimited talk, text, and 2G data (what even?) in Canada and Mexico. You do get access to T-Mobile Tuesday perks although arguably the year's best perk has already been and gone (MLB Live Mobile), and you do get a year's access to Paramount+, which is something.

A single line on the Base Essential's plan costs $45, you'll get two for $80, three for $100, and a quartet of lines for $120. If it's a single line you are after, you might be better off forking out an extra $5 for T-Mobile's prepaid plan at $50 monthly which would get you unlimited data.
