The demise of LG's mobile business has resulted in the cancelation of the brand's 2021 handsets such as the LG Rainbow and the Rollable, which is a sad day all around. It seems that it's actually possible to purchase the LG Rainbow, or Velvet 2 Pro as it would have been known, but only if you are an employee based in South Korea.

According to a tweet by @FrontTron, LG is selling around 3,000 units of the Velvet 2 Pro (LM-V700N) to its employees for the grand sum of roughly $170, although they are apparently prohibited from selling the phones on to others. Available in Glossy Black, Glossy Beige, and a Bimetallic Bronze that has both glossy and matte elements, the Velvet 2 Pro sports a similar design language as its predecessor. The power and volume controls are pressure-sensitive touch sensors. LG is only providing up to 6 months of after-sale service (while parts last), with no software updates on the horizon.

Other specifications of the Velvet 2 Pro include:

  • Snapdragon 888 processor
  • 6.8-inch FHD+ OLED display with 120Hz Refresh Rate
  • 8GB RAM
  • 128GB Storage
  • 4,500mAh Battery

LG employees are allowed to buy a maximum of 2 units each of the Velvet 2 Pro, and it also seems that there are some Rollable units being sold as well, although details on that haven't been leaked as yet. All-in-all, it's a sad end to LG's mobile business that brought us so many interesting and exciting designs but could never quite hit the sweet spot with mainstream consumers.
