
Christmas Day is fast approaching and as our minds turn to gifts and turkey have you decided how you are going to contact friends and family in this pandemic world we are living in? Instead of having huge family gatherings most countries are encouraging smaller groupings, which places a greater emphasis on video calling. Zoom is a video calling service that has seen its fortunes boom in 2020 thanks to much of the population working from home and now it’s has announced unlimited free calls during the festive period.
It’s not quite a free-for-all on video calls, Zoom’s lifting of its 40-minute free calling applies at these dates and times:
- 10 a.m. ET Thursday, Dec. 17, to 6 a.m. ET Saturday, Dec. 19
- 10 a.m. ET Wednesday, Dec. 23, to 6 a.m. ET Saturday, Dec. 26
- 10 a.m. ET on Wednesday, Dec. 30, to 6 a.m. ET on Saturday, Jan. 2
The free video calls are to celebrate Hanukkah, Christmas, New Year, and the last days of Kwanzaa. You don’t need to do anything from your side because it’s a server-side switch by Zoom, who have the following tips to help ensure a great experience:
- Protect your session from uninvited guests by requiring a meeting passcode to join and enabling Waiting Rooms – and don’t share your meeting IDs on social media or other public forums
- Learn how to get started on Zoom with basic tips and answers to frequently asked questions
- Download festive virtual backgrounds and have fun with our video filters!
- Get creative with how you Zoom — check out some ideas for hosting virtual parties and tips for connecting with family and friends
Remember to ensure that the Zoom clients on your smartphones, tablets and laptops are updated to the latest version and you should be on the way to having great video calls.
