Report points to LG Rollable and Rainbow flagship launching in March 2021

LG Rollable

With Samsung and Motorola to an extent, having sewn up the foldable smartphone segment, LG is prepping to launch a phone with a rollable OLED display during the first half of 2021. A budget handset, as well as a Snapdragon 888-powered flagship, are also on the roster for the same time period according to the latest report.

The Korean news outlet, ETNews, says that LG will launch the Rollable that sports a 6.8-inch display that extends, or rolls out to increase the viewable real estate to 7.4-inches with nary a fold or a crease in sight. Rumored to launch during March 2021, the Rollable will be the first commercially available handset with a rollable display, although both Samsung and OPPO are said to be jumping on the bandwagon at some point.

The Snapdragon 888-powered flagship that is codenamed Rainbow is a traditional smartphone in that its display won’t extend, roll out, or swivel. Reportedly the replacement for the V70 but with a design inspired by the Velvet, the Rainbow is said to support Wacom active stylus. Considering that the rumors point to Samsung including S Pen support with at least one of the Galaxy S21 models, its inclusion on the Rainbow could be useful if LG follows its habit of pairing its flagships with a secondary display like the V60 ThinQ for example. As with the Rollable, LG is said to be planning on launching the Rainbow in March 2021.

Finally, LG is reportedly prepping an affordable 5G smartphone that will carry the Q83 moniker and launch sometime during the first half of 2021. It’s unknown if the Q83 will be a product from LG’s own design and development team or if it’s from one of the ODMs that the Korean company handed responsibility to for making low and mid-range smartphones.
