Stickers play a huge role on WhatsApp and help you express unique emotions. WhatsApp introduced them in 2018, offering official sticker packs while allowing you to download third-party packs. If you weren't satisfied with those options, you could create custom stickers. But that requires downloading other apps and leaving WhatsApp to create and add them.
Fortunately, the 2.24.6.5 WhatsApp beta version for Android will introduce an in-app sticker editor. The new feature is already rolling out and should make its way to your device soon. Here's more information on it.
You can now create stickers directly on WhatsApp
As spotted by WABetaInfo, the popular messaging app has made it possible to create stickers right from its interface. Now, you don't need to download an extra tool to do it.
The new feature is part of the 2.24.6.5 beta update for Android, although it's late to the party. iOS and iPadOS users already received it since January 2024. When next you use WhatsApp on an Android phone or tablet, you should notice a Create button in the stickers section of the keyboard. On Apple's devices, the button is a large +.
Alternatively, you'll find the option to create a sticker in the overflow menu. Just tap the three-dot icon in the top right corner of a conversation screen. Using either option provides access to photos on your phone. You'll select which one to turn into a sticker, and WhatsApp automatically makes a cutout. You can retain the background if you want, and it provides editing tools to make it pop. You can scribble on the sticker, overlay another sticker, add funny texts, and even emojis.
You need to send the sticker to someone to save it for your collection. Otherwise, you would've done all that editing for nothing. If you have existing stickers, including the AI-generated versions, you can also edit or add them to your favorites. Unfortunately, you can't make live stickers out of GIFs or videos yet. It's possible that WhatsApp will introduce these choices in future updates.

Be part of the WhatsApp Beta program
The sticker editor is only available to select WhatsApp beta testers. If you're one and you don't have it, be patient, as the update is still rolling out and will take time to reach users in different regions. If you want to join the Beta program, you may do so on the app's information page on the Google Play Store or the Android App Testing webpage.
However, the program is currently full, and you won't see the option to join. Since availability varies across regions, it's possible that there's a slot open in your location. As for non-beta testers, you'll just have to wait until the official release to use the sticker editor. In the meantime, you can play around with the app's AI-generated stickers. You'll create as many as you need with text prompts. Also, you can create stickers on WhatsApp web.
