Google TV Freeplay just got a lot more useful. The free, ad-supported hub built into Google TV now carries over 10,000 on-demand movies and shows alongside more than 300 live channels, all without a subscription or extra sign-up.

The on-demand library pulls titles from studios including A24 and Lionsgate, mixing awards fare like “Lady Bird” with lower-stakes comfort watches like “Seventeen Again” and “Hell's Kitchen.” Google says the catalog will keep refreshing throughout the year rather than sitting static.

The live channel side got a bump too, with new additions like World of Love Island, Bloomberg TV+, Yahoo! Sports Network, and The Martha Stewart Channel joining the existing news, sports, true crime, and reality lineup.

Why it matters

Free ad-supported streaming has turned into one of the more crowded corners of the TV business, with Tubi, Pluto TV, and The Roku Channel all fighting for the same “I don't want to open another app” moment. Google folding Freeplay's expanded library directly into Google TV's home screen skips that step entirely. If you already own a Google TV device, this content is just sitting there the next time you turn the thing on.

Everything here is ad-supported rather than truly free of interruption, and Google's own footnotes limit availability to Google TV devices in the US with a Google Account and a stable internet connection. There's no indication yet of international rollout. To get to it, open the Freeplay app from the home screen on a Google TV device.

Takeaway

If you're already inside the Google TV ecosystem in the US, this is a meaningful library bump for zero extra cost or setup. If you're outside the US or running a different platform, there's nothing to act on here yet.
