Samsung is no stranger to staying at the forefront of technology, and they've long been a leader in display manufacturing. That paid off with the recent launch of foldable phones, which has seen Samsung take the crown from, well, pretty much everyone. They're really one of the only manufacturers consistently making good foldable phones early on.
It helps that Samsung also owns their own display manufacturing division, although it looks like Samsung Display might have tipped their hand about the next round of folding screens and phones.
New Samsung folding phones
These new images are clearly early concepts drawn in a friendly art style, so it's a far cry from the prototypes and press renders that we usually see. But since this comes from a Samsung manufacturing division and not Samsung Mobile who's actually responsible for creating the entire phone, it makes a little more sense.
The first image shows off a trifold smartphone design that can unfold into a pretty large device. We've seen this before from TCL (at least in proof-of-concept designs) but it extends the normal design that we're used to by giving a phone two hinges. That's twice the points of failure, but it does offer dramatically expanded screen space, which is great.
The other image shows a rolling phone, more in line with one of LG's new rollable OLED TVs. This isn't something that we've actually seen in a commercially available device yet, but it does look like Samsung is taking the form factor seriously.

So here's where you should really take everything with a huge grain of salt. These images do come from Samsung Display, like we mentioned earlier, not Samsung Mobile. This very well could be a display or two that they're working on for future Samsung phones. It could also be something that Samsung Display is working on for a complete other manufacturer, too, or even just some proof of concept stuff that's never going to pan out.
Fun to think about? Definitely. Just don't get too hyped for this until we see something else.
