A new ADB tool allows users to unlock the full potential of Amazon's budget Fire tablets with Google apps and services, custom launchers and lockscreen wallpapers, and much more.
Amazon has been offering customers extremely budget-conscious tablets for years with their ‘Fire' line, offering usable performance at bargain prices, with one major drawback to achieve this price; a replacement of Google's apps and services, and various default Android functionality, with Amazon's own suite of replacements, often featuring ads. This, amongst other things, prevents users from accessing the Google Play Store in favour of Amazon's own lacklustre alternative.
There have been workarounds for many of these annoyances already, but they have never been particularly easy nor convenient to implement. Thankfully, XDA Senior Member Datastream33 has just released their Amazon Fire Toolbox tool, impressively compatible with all Fire tablets dating back to 2014's Fire HD 6, which makes ‘fixing' Amazon's tablets easier than ever.
By just plugging their tablet into a Windows PC and enabling USB debugging (and install the USB drivers), a Fire user can now just run the AFT tool and easily customise their tablet:

As you can see, the tool is highly functional and clearly designed, with most buttons being self-explanatory, and the tool allows removing Amazon bloat, replacing Amazon's advertorial wallpapers, and installing Google services and apps, including Google Assistant.
For now AFT is currently only available on Windows, though a Linux port is in development, and more features are planned including rooting, and resetting the device to its stock state.
Needless to say, if you're a Fire user the Amazon Fire Toolbox will make your tablet life way easier and more agreeable, and if you're considering buying a Fire tablet perhaps this will make that choice easier.
