The app designed to help handle contact tracing in the UK is now widely available. The COVID-19 tracing app is up for download on the Play Store, and should work once you put in the correct zip code.
UK COVID-19 tracing
This app was originally launched for testing back in May before having a couple bugs and quirks that needed to be ironed out. It hasn't taken too long to get everything fixed, so it's now pretty widely available in the UK mainland.
There's not a whole lot to the app, since it's more a background tracing thing. You give it location and Bluetooth permissions, then let it do its thing. If you start to feel like you have symptoms, you can report it within the app, which will then start to send out alerts to anyone that you might've been in contact with. The opposite is also true, and you'll be notified if someone you've been around confirms they have symptoms.
Strangely enough, this app doesn't seem to be restricted to just users in the UK, which could be problematic for getting accurate numbers and readings. False warnings probably won't be a big problem for people in the UK, but ideally you'd want to be able to track how many people are actually using the app. It's sitting at over 60k installs, but hopefully that doesn't include too many people outside of its intended area.
