5G was already the carrier's favorite buzzword in 2019 and as coverage is slowly improving, it's finally beginning to mean something to consumers. 2020 is going to be the year that smartphone manufacturers include 5G connectivity on all models in their flagship ranges, as we've already seen with OPPO's X2 and X2 Pro that launched last week. We are expecting the OnePlus 8 Series to be announced sometime during April and the company's CEO and co-founder, Pete Lau, has stated that all of the models launched will be 5G-enabled.
This is great news for cOnePlus fans because they can be assured that their brand new phone will be able to take advantage of the faster speeds offered by 5G as its coverage improves. It's also bad news because while every new OnePlus phone usually comes with a small price bump, the OnePlus 8 Series of handsets will likely also come with an increased bump up in price. In an interview with CNET, Pete Lau had the following to say on 5G technology:
“We've always had a position in creating the best product possible at the best price point. The new technology does add costs so costs have risen in comparison to 4G products,”
The OnePlus 8 Series is believed to consist of three models, including a higher-specced Pro variant and a “Lite” version, although it's not clear if all three models will be announced at the same time.
Are you looking forward to seeing the OnePlus 8 Series launch?
