It's fair to say that the notch isn't the most well-received feature to appear on our smartphones, in fact, it's quite likely the most controversial design aspect we've seen in recent years. But, as we've seen with Samsung's Galaxy A80 and phones such as the Oppo F11 Pro, there are other ways to put a selfie camera on a smartphone without resorting to a notched design. Speaking of Oppo, their newly announced Reno 10x Zoom Edition sports a novel method of replacing the notch by way of a motorized wedge that exposes both the front cameras and rear flash by sliding up and down, achieving a high screen-to-body ratio in the process.

There are two versions of Oppo's new handset, the standard Reno and then the drawcard with the wedge design called the Reno 10x Zoom Edition, both of which feature Oppo's Color OS software overlay. The high-specced 10x Zoom Edition features the motorized wedge that houses the 16MP selfie camera and the flash module for the triple rear camera setup, allowing the phone to achieve a screen-to-body ratio of 93.%. On the back panel, you can find a 48MP main sensor, an 8MP super wide-angle lens as well as the 13MP periscopic lens that brings the 10x hybrid Zoom and OIS.

Oppo says that the wedge has been designed to endure being opened up to 100 times a day for up to five years, and for extra piece of mind it features a sensor that will automatically close it when dropped.

Elsewhere, there's a bigger 6.6-inch OLED display with FHD+ resolution while under the hood is Qualcomm's current flagship processor, the Snapdragon 855. There's a choice of 6GB or 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of built-in storage with MicroSD support. The Reno 10x Zoom Edition also has a bigger battery with 4,065mAh which uses Oppo's VOOC fast charging technology.

The standard Reno boasts a 6.4-inch OLED display with FHD+ resolution, is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 710 processor, and has 6GB or 8GB of RAM with up to 256GB of built-in storage with MicroSD support. There's a dual rear camera setup consisting of a 48MP min sensor and a 5MP depth sensor with 5x hybrid zoom. while there is a 16MP selfie camera present. The battery has 3,650mAh capacity and features 18W charging.

The Reno will be available in Pink, Gradient Purple, Black, and Blue with a $450 price tag for the 6GB/128GB variant. The Reno 10x Xoom Edition, on the other hand, will only be offered in Gradient Blue and Black with a cost of $600 for the 6GB/128GB version, while the 8GB/256GB variant will cost roughly $710.

The Reno 10x Zoom Edition (and the regular Reno) are set to launch at an event in Zurich on April 24th, and we'll be there in person to cover it, so keep it locked to TalkAndroid.
