It's almost a certainty that you've experienced the misery of one of your favorite apps being sent off to the great developer in the sky or reincarnated in some instances, and there's a pretty good chance that Google took the role of being the grim reaper in the scenario. To celebrate Halloween, Google's Seattle team created a mock graveyard featuring the gravestones of some of the most missed Google apps such as Reader, Picasa, and Google Plus.
There are gravestones for a bunch of Google services that were, at one time or another, supposed to merge their functions into the Google Plus social media app. Picasa ended up being mushed into Google Photos, and the rest, well, the rest went the same way as the app they were supposed to complement, dead, buried, but not forgotten. Just this year we've said goodbye to apps such as Allo, Google Plus was taken off life support, and Hangouts is on an IV drip somewhere in an induced coma, waiting for Google to pull the plug on it. Another app that ceased to exist this year was Inbox by Google, and despite some of its features slowly being pushed to the Gmail app, many still long for its clean design and functionality.
It's a sad, sad tale, and you can bet that Google won't hesitate to swing its ax on other popular apps in the future when it decides to launch yet another new messaging app or two.
