Multitask away: Plex brings picture-in-picture binging to Android phones 4

Plex has dropped a pretty big update to their Android app today, bringing several new features, enhancements, and bug fixes. If you're the type that likes to multitask while watching shows and movies, you're in for a treat.

This update is focused primarily around videos, though, so nothing else for music playback just yet.

The biggest change is the addition of picture-in-picture for videos, so now while you're watching something via Plex, you can simply tap your home button and have a floating window on your home screen. You can continue to text and browse the web and do whatever else, all without interrupting your shows. Other apps have offered this before, but having it on Plex is nice.

Aside from PiP, you're also getting an enhanced video player that's more similar to the upgraded music player that Plex delivered recently, plus better scrubbing and seeking, the option to quickly jump to chapters in your media instead of trying to manually skip to where you need to go, and new viewing modes that either stretch or fill your phone screen. Additionally, if you're binging several episodes in a row, Plex will begin to buffer up the next episode once the “up next” screen starts. That should make it quicker to get into the next episode with as few hiccups as possible.

Keep an eye out for that update on your device rolling out soon.
