Better late than never: ASUS announces which ZenFone smartphones will get Android Pie 4

Android Pie has been available since late last year, but many manufacturers still haven't adopted the latest version of Android for their smartphones. ASUS hasn't exactly been up to snuff with their own devices, but they've at least announced a plan to update some of their phones to the latest from Google.

Here's the list of devices you can expect to receive Android Pie:

  • ZenFone 4 Max (ZC554KL)
  • ZenFone 4 Selfie (ZD553KL)
  • ZenFone 4 Max (ZC520KL)
  • ZenFone Live (ZB553KL)
  • ZenFone4 Max (ZB520KL)
  • ZenFone Max Plus (M1) Clear Soft Bumper (ZB570TL)
  • ZenFone 5Q (ZC600KL)
  • ZenFone Live (L1) Clear Soft Bumper (ZA550KZ / ZA551KL)
  • ZenFone Max Pro (ZB602KL)
  • ZenFone Max Pro (ZB601KL)
  • ZenFone Max (M1) Clear Soft Bumper (ZB555KL / ZB556KL)
  • ZenFone 5 (ZE620KL)
  • ZenFone 5Z (ZS620KL)
  • ASUS ROG Phone (ZS600KL)
  • ZenFone Max Pro (M2) Clear Soft Bumper (ZB631KL/ ZB630KL)
  • ZenFone Max (M2) Clear Soft Bumper (ZB633KL / ZB632KL)

Now for the less exciting news: we don't know which of these devices are getting updated first, or what the exact timeframe is for any of the updates. They should all have their update by the end of 2019, so you'll definitely be upgraded by the end of the year, but by the end of 2019 Android Q will be the latest from Google. There's a pretty good chance that some of these ZenFone smartphones will never be running the latest version of Android.

Looks like Project Treble hasn't really had the effect that Google hoped it would.
