Samsung released the Galaxy Watch as a successor to the Gear S3, but technically the Gear Sport still hasn't gotten a true replacement. That could change soon with a new Galaxy Watch Active that's set to be a cheaper, sporty alternative to the bigger Galaxy Watch family with a few key changes.
The biggest change with this watch will be the lack of a rotating bezel, which is something that Samsung watches are known for. Instead the Galaxy Watch Active will exclusively be using touch gestures, but it's also going to have a slightly smaller 1.1-inch screen. The Gear Sport had a 1.2-inch screen, for reference.
The watch does also feature a newer charger design that will have the watch laying flat instead of at a 90-degree angle in a cradle, which seems to be a major hint at the reverse wireless charging in the Galaxy S10, too. You really might need the extra juice since the battery is shrinking on this watch compared to the Gear Sport as well.
Otherwise the watch has all the hardware and features you'd expect, including swimproofing, a zippy Exynos CPU, 4GB of storage, Bluetooth 4.2 with no option for LTE, and GPS tracking.
The only thing we still need will be the pricing and release date, but we'll almost definitely see this at Unpacked next week.
