Google Voice is one of Google's strangest products that seems to be abandoned at times, but then Google drops in a major new feature or overhauls its designs to keep it kicking for another few years. The app has recently been updated to match Gmail's latest redesign, and now sports a full, refreshed Material Design theme to bring it in line with the rest of the G Suite apps.
You'll notice a much slicker, better interface, but Google has changed some functionality, too. The bottom bar that houses your Calls, Contacts, Messages, and Voicemail is now animated with its own shade of Google Voice green, and the new search bar at the top fits in much better with the rest of Google's lineup. It searches through all of your contacts and messages, although that part has actually be implemented in Google Voice for a while.
Otherwise, the app is rounder and more compact in places, and this fresh coat of paint makes it seem like Google Voice may actually still live on for a while even in the face of RCS's takeover.
As of right now I still haven't gotten the actual update on any of my devices, but you can update via the Play Store and let us know if you are seeing the revamp yet.
