Samsung is working on software update to fix Galaxy Note 9's camera freezing bug 2

It appears that some Galaxy Note 9 users have been experiencing issues when taking photos and recording video with Samsung's most recent flagship smartphone. The issue would seem only to affect the Snapdragon 845-powered variant that is sold in the United States and not the model using the Exynos 9810 processor that is sold outside in the rest of the world. There is good news on the horizon, though, with Samsung apparently, and belatedly, working on a fix for the problem.

Some users on Samsung's official forums have reported that the phone's camera is prone to freezing while taking photos with others experiencing lag when shooting video. Other users have said that the camera also freezes when using third-party apps that access the camera, resulting in a ‘Camera Failed' warning. The issues seem to affect both the carrier and unlocked variants of the Galaxy Note 9, with some complaints being logged as far back as a few months ago.

One solution suggested on the forum includes clearing the system partition cache, although this is just a temporary fix with Galaxy Note 9 owners reporting that the issue often returned.

According to a moderator on Samsung's US forums, the Korean handset maker is working on a software update that should fix the frozen camera issue. As you might expect, no timeframe has been given for when the fix will roll out, which is pretty frustrating if you've spent $1,000 on the Galaxy Note 9.

If you own the Snapdragon-powered Galaxy Note 9, have you experienced the freezing camera issue?

  1. I never had the issue….until I read a post on a forum and the very next day it started happening on mine as well. I shouldn’t have opened that post and maybe my phone would be just fine
