A leaked version of the Oppo Find X has surfaced on Twitter, confirming that it will come in a flavor with a whopping 10GB of RAM. 6GB seems to be the standard that Android OEMs have settled on with a few outliers rocking 8GB, but that's clearly not enough for Oppo.
Fortunately, it doesn't look like this will make Oppo skimp on other specs, as the leak also confirms 256GB of internal storage, and we already know the standard Find X is fairly high-end.
So, what this really comes down to is just how vital 10GB of RAM is to a great Android experience. Google's Pixel phones have stuck at 4GB and will likely still have 4GB this year, even though several other devices have climbed higher and higher in that spec. But does the Note 9 with 8GB of RAM perform that much better than a standard Pixel 2? That's a really unscientific question and there are tons of other factors at play, but for all but the most insane multitasking, it's really hard to see massive differences from RAM like that.
Even some laptops and desktop computers on the market today are still using 8GB of RAM, which is honestly good enough for most things, even some high-end gaming. I'm not saying we shouldn't keep pushing the boundaries of flagship hardware, but maybe there are better places to spend that money in a phone besides piling more barely-used RAM in.
