If you've kept up with the drama of cross-platform play and Sony's stubbornness, you probably would have never guessed that the company would be randomly announcing crossplay in the middle of the week, but that's where we are. Sony has released a statement that from this point forward, they're opening up crossplay on the PS4 for Fortnite (and for right now only Fortnite) with other consoles, as well as Android and iOS mobile devices.
So, for the finer details: Sony is only launching this as an open beta, so there will likely still be some kinks to hammer out. However, considering how many other platforms already support this, I wouldn't imagine it would take all that long. And if it does work out, that's a good sign for other games that are offered on multiple platforms, like Minecraft. Being able to pick up your progress on your Sony Xperia phone from your PS4 only makes sense.
