OnePlus 3/3T set to miss out on Oreo 8.1 update and go straight to Android P 2

OnePlus 3/3T owners will no doubt remember that the handset maker had initially said that the two models would be updated to Android Oreo 8.1 and no further. With the OnePlus 3/3T currently running Oreo 8.0, OnePlus has decided to skip Oreo 8.1 altogether and instead upgrade them to Android P

According to a blog post on the OnePlus forums, the smartphone manufacturer decided to focus its developer resources on Android P after holding ‘internal discussions and evaluation'. It's a decision that makes total sense for OnePlus and the management of its resources, plus it's bound to garner even more loyalty from its fans.

Before you get too excited, it's going to take a little while for the Android P update to roll out to the OnePlus 3/3T. OnePlus says that the Android P update will first roll out to the OnePlus 6, then the OnePlus 5/5T, and then to the OnePlus 3/3T, in that particular order.

While OnePlus 3/3T owners likely have a few months to wait for the Android P update, the good news is that the two-year-old handsets will be running the latest version of Android later this year. What do you make of OnePlus's decision? If you are a current OnePlus 3/3T owner, does the thought of getting the Android P update mean that you'll wait a little longer before upgrading the handset? Let us know in the comments below.
