Remember a few years ago when manufacturers were racing to make phones bigger and bigger and bigger? We finally hit the 5-inch mark with reasonable bezels, and, for the most part, decided that was good enough. There are still some outliers in the 5.5 to 6-inch range, and Samsung's Note line has always pushed the boundaries, but the days of the almost-tablet (remember phablets?) are over.
Well, they were. Huawei's going back to 2014.
The latest Huawei Mate 20 Pro has leaked and is rumored to sport an enormous 6.9-inch OLED display supplied by Samsung. That's basically a tablet, as even in 2018 you can pretty commonly find 7-inch tablets still on the market.
Of course, there's bound to be some high-end improvements to make this rumored Mate 20 Pro easier to use. Phones have razor thin bezels now, and the larger screens are exaggerated a bit by notches all over the place. Most phones are opting for a taller 18:9 aspect ratio now instead of the older 16:9 displays, which helps quite a bit for usability, and I'd expect Huawei to utilize all of this to make a phone that's actually still usable.
But for those of you who really just want a tablet-sized phone, Huawei might just be selling the cure. If these rumors pan out, anyway. Keep your eyes peeled.
