How many times have you heard the excuse from smartphone manufacturers that its impossible to upgrade an 18-month old smartphone because of software and hardware limitations? If you own an Honor 8 you definitely know what I'm talking about here, but if you own one of 40 Xiaomi handsets, you don't have to worry. MIUI 9 was announced a little before the end of 2017 and is now making its way to 40 Xiaomi devices, even to old handsets such as the Mi 2 that launched way back in 2013.
MIUI 9 is based on Android 7.0 Nougat and includes features such as a native split-screen mode, app shortcuts, Quick Replies, and a revamped notification panel, to name just a few. Much like Apple's iOS, not all the new features will make it to every handset eligible for the MIUI 9 update. You can see which Xiaomi devices are slated to get the MIUI 9 update in the comprehensive list below that Xiaomi posted on its Weibo page
