The Galaxy S8 isn't the only exciting thing coming from Samsung today. One of the bigger accessories announced with the flagship phones is the Gear 360, an updated version of last year's smaller Gear 360. Samsung is sticking with the same name, but the second generation model offers some pretty significant improvements.
Instead of the basic sphere camera, the newer Gear 360 looks kind of like a medical instrument. With that being said, it's easier to hold and has a grip to help you capture video, so that's a plus.
This time around, the 360 can capture 15-megapixel images and record full 4K video, which is a step down in the image department but a massive improvement for video. The captured images and videos can be transferred to the Gear's companion app for editing and sharing, too.

Samsung also added a real-time sharing mode to the Gear 360, which plays off of the growing popularity of live streaming video on sites like Facebook and YouTube. It captures video at 2K resolution but immediately slings it to the user's platform of choice, so it's likely going to look a lot better than all of your friends doing live stream with their front facing cameras.
A few other interesting tidbits from the Gear 360 include dust/water resistance, USB Type-C charging, and compatibility with most semi-recent Samsung flagship phones, plus all of Apple's recent iOS devices. It'll work on a computer in a pinch, in case you don't have any phones handy.
