nexus_wifi_assistant_operationOwn a phone from the Nexus line? Google's WiFi Assistant is accessible on your Nexus device beginning today. It was previously exclusive to Project Fi customers, but now Google is opening up WiFi Assistant for everyone to enjoy.

For those unfamiliar with WiFi Assistant, the feature is what automatically connects you to WiFi networks when on-the-go. It silently scans the area for WiFi networks that can be used securely. Once identified, your device is seamlessly connected to that network and data is transmitted through a virtual private network (VPN) managed by Google.

Google is rolling out WiFi Assistant to its Nexus phones over the coming weeks, so don't be surprised if it's not live for you right now.

You'll need a Nexus device running Android 5.1 Lollipop or later and be located in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, and Nordic countries. When live on your phone, you'll be prompted to activate WiFi Assistant through a notification. Then the magic begins.
