Did you forget about Samsung's Gear 360? You'd be forgiven if you did, since Samsung went almost completely silent on the little camera after its announcement with the Galaxy S7.
Well, fast forward a few months to the launch of the next Galaxy phone, and the tentative release date for the US version of the gadget is finally here, complete with the same $349 price tag that we originally saw.
The Gear 360 is currently available in Korea and Singapore, but that leaves out pretty much all of the rest of the world. They'll officially be available online on August 19th, which happens to be the same day that the Note 7 goes on sale, so Samsung should have a pretty busy start to Q4 this year.
The camera is designed to take 360-degree video footage of whatever it is you take 360-degree footage of, which can then be edited on a smartphone. At least, a more modern Samsung smartphone, which means the Galaxy S6 and up. The Gear 360 has no internal storage, so if you're planning on making a purchase, you'll probably want to pick up an extra microSD card while you're at it. Fortunately, you'll be able to pop that SD card into your Galaxy S7 or Galaxy Note 7 and get straight to editing.
At $349, I don't imagine we'll see many of these sold as stocking stuffers, If you're really into making videos, however, it's probably a worthwhile investment, since it seems like one of the cheapest and most efficient ways to start recording that kind of video.
