Samsung has today announced the Galaxy Grand Prime — the latest addition to its budget-friendly line up. The handset is set to launch in India this week off-contract for INR 15,499, which equates to approximately $250.
The Grand Prime is Samsung’s first ever smartphone to feature a front-facing 5-megapixel camera. This functionality together with the inclusion of a 5-inch qHD display, 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of expandable storage help to make it a rather great, affordable device.
According to Asim Warsi, Vice President of Marketing, Mobile and IT at Samsung India, the “Galaxy Grand Prime opens a whole new world of premium mobile experience for consumers looking at uninterrupted entertainment and multi-tasking on-the-go. Introducing the new trend of ‘Groupfie’, Galaxy Grand Prime features an advanced wide angle front camera best-suited to capture group images.”
The Prime will run the latest build of Android 4.4 KitKat skinned with the same version of the South Korean company’s TouchWiz user interface that’s currently present on both the Galaxy S5 and Note 3, but we believe the device will be upgraded to Android L via a simple OTA update upon its official release.
