Next month is shaping up to be a promising one for Google. The company is expected to unveil the next round of Nexus devices and Android L. While the HTC-made Nexus tablet is essentially a lock to debut, the existence of a phone is a little iffy. Today, Google's phone plans have been confirmed. The Nexus 6 is real and Motorola is behind it.

Almost matching the number in its name, the Nexus 6 will have a 5.9-inch display. The resolution of the Shamu-sized screen is 2560×1440 (QHD). This puts its pixel density at 496 pixels per inch. Your eyes will be thanking you endlessly. Inside is a generously sized 3200mAh battery.

And the design of the Nexus 6 will match that of the Moto X (2014). Liam Spradlin of Android Police composed the image above of what we can expect. It does indeed look like an oversized Moto X. It has front facing speakers on the top and bottom. The power and volume buttons have been placed lower than usual to accommodate for the tall body of the Nexus 6. It will also keep the Moto X's aluminum frame. Motorola is even making sure the Turbo Charger will be compatible with the Nexus 6 for speedy charging.

The rear camera is 13MP and features optical image stabilization. Again like Motorola's flagship device, the Nexus 6 is going to feature that interesting ring around the camera lens housing the LED flash. The front camera is 2MP.

You will also notice in the mockup above that Google is revamping many of Android's app icons. Notably, Hangouts is missing and the old Messaging app has seemingly made a return. Could that just be Hangouts getting another makeover? We shall see.

Google is clearly leaning towards a more premium experience with the design and specs of this device. Are you interested in the Nexus 6 made by Motorola? Let us know in the comments.

  1. Just damn big, 5.2″ would be a good screensize. I would love a nexus 5 (2014), same size but with upgraded performance all around… i’ll guess i’ll buy the old Nexus 5 instead…

  2. It took me all of about an hour to get over the size of my Note 3 and now I wouldn’t want to go back to anything smaller. I love the S Pen functionality and the SAMOLED screen, but if I can get a large phone that’s pure Google and presumably a lot cheaper than the Note 4, I’m totally going for it.

  3. Well well.. Looks like moto x 2014 is going to be my next phone then.. I own a Z ultra so I do not need another phone in that size.. And I also own a g3 and by that I know that qhd is not really necessary (for me) I can easily live with just an full HD display.. Can only speak for myself.. I think they should be focusing on the battery life instead! Would be amazing just to charge the phone once or twice a week and not every night☺ but that’s what I think at least!

  4. 5.9 is just too big for a phone. I was hoping to get a nexus 6, but looks like ill have to stick with my nexus 5 for a while longer.

  5. My nexus5 better life is doing just fine. I dont know why everyone is so afraid of a big phone. If they make a 5.2 inch phone it would be called the moto x2 which that already exists. Bring on the oversize nexus 6 i cant wait to get my hands on it!

  6. I certainly hope Google did not lie about continuing to make Nexus phones. 5.9 is a tablet. Hopefully they are making 2 sizes although 5.2 is still too big and will most likely kill the battery life like the Nexus 4&5. Google has made absolutely no improvements in better battery life dating back to the Galaxy Nexus.

    1. It makes a lot of sense for the Nexus 6 to be 5.9″. What is the screen size of the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10? Yep, you guessed it 4″, 5″, 7″ and 10″.
