We've heard a ton of rumors about what type of camera Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Note 4 will have, including some speculation about a 20 megapixel shooter and benchmarks that seem to confirm a 16 megapixel camera similar to the Galaxy S 5. It looks like both of those may be inaccurate, however, and Samsung will be going with a 12 megapixel camera with OIS implemented.
Samsung has been struggling to get an OIS camera on one of their smartphones for a while now, originally trying to ship the Galaxy Note 3 with an OIS camera before supply constraints made it too difficult. This time around, Samsung has partnered with several other companies to guarantee that they'll be able to produce at least 5 million sensors in time to ship the Note 3 whenever it arrives later this year.
Up until now, the Galaxy Note line has never had less megapixels than the Galaxy S that came before it. In order to keep the Note 4 thin and to accommodate for the OIS sensor, Samsung has had to drop the megapixel count a bit. As HTC has shown the world with their new devices, you don't necessarily need huge megapixel counts for a great camera, but it's still good to see Samsung is going with something fairly high resolution.
What are your thoughts on the upcoming Galaxy Note 4? Will it live up to the hype or be a disappointing device?
