iFixit team tears down, repairs OnePlus One, receives average repairability score

Now that the OnePlus One is officially outed, of course the folks over at iFixit had to get their hands on it.

The team did a full report on the device (tore it down and put it back together again) to determine its repairability score, which unfortunately was a bit low compared to today's standards. The device received a 5/10 (10 us easiest to repair). According to iFixit, here's why:

•  No proprietary screws and only one screw head type decreases cost of tools for repairs.
•  Fairly modular components will allow for less expensive replacement parts.
• Slight adhesive used on the battery and several cables.
• With its connector trapped under a plastic panel and several screws, the battery is more of a chore to replace than necessary.
• The LCD and digitizer glass are fused together and must be replaced as a single part, and they require heat to remove from the mid frame.

We won't know how the device ends up performing in the market for a little while, but its “average repairability score” won't be the thing that holds it back if sales do experience a hiccup.
